Thought I’d start a new thread to take over where the original ChiDope Lunch thread left off.
Last we heard, porcupine couldn’t make August 28, so she suggested September 5, which works fine for me. Anyone else interested?

Kyla, you can stuff it, lady. We’ve had ONE in Greektown. ONE. The ones downtown mean I have to haul ass all the way from Division & Halsted but dammit, you don’t hear me complaining, do you?!

Slightly more seriously - the Berghoff standup bar perhaps?
The couple times I’ve been there, it’s been pretty packed, but the food is great and relatively cheap, considering your not sitting down. If we go there, I think we’d want to sit down. Especially if Gundy is hauling her ass all over creation. That gets tiring.
But she glistens when she gets there!
Where is this famous standup bar?

I should be able to do September 5 – and the Berghoff should be do-able, as long as we don’t make it a two-hour lunch or anything. (New job equals less slacking, don’cha know.)

The stand-up bar at the Berghoff sounds good to me. Should we plan on meeting around 1 as usual to avoid some of the crowds?
Just in case anyone is unfamilar with the stand-up bar. it is on the S side of Adams, between Dearborn and State. Esentially immediately east of the Berghoff restaurant.
Menu is limited - essentially sandwiches, brats, and the like from a steam table. And beer.
It is a neat place for a couple of reasons (IMO):
IIRC has Chicago liquor license #1. Photos on wall showing re-opening after prohibition.
For the longest time, it was men’s only. In fact, still has only a men’s john - women have to use the ones nextdoor in the restaurant.
Really neat long old bar to elbow up to with brass foot rail.
No chairs, stools, or other seating.
It is elbow to asshole at lunchtime, tho it clears out after 1-1:30 or so. But they stop serving sandwiches around then as well, so I’ll have to call and see what our window would be. My buddy and I used to most frequently go over there @ 2 - too late for a ChiDope lunch.
So, it is a really neat lace to go and tip a couple of beers. But, it may not be the best place for a ChiDope lunch. Someplace along the lines of Stocks and Blondes mught be better for our purposes. But, as the ladies all say, I’m easy.
Oh, good point. Hmm, I don’t think that one has the menu listed - page says “under construction.”
Okay, how about the Lou Malnati’s near the Merchandise Mart, or Sopraffina on Dearborn and Madison, or the Potbelly’s on State and Lake?
How about the Caffe Baci on Wacker? No waiting for clueless waitstaff! Yummy Italian food!
