I think I have recuperated enough to say I am damned glad I went. Those who scouted the bar and got this rolling - Gundy, Random, Jane D’oh! - I salute you! That I could walk there made this gathering one I was not going to miss. It was nice to put faces to the names, although it was just a bit intimidating walking into that room of strangers. I thought I would pop in for 1/2 hour or so and surprised myself by leaving many beers later.

iampunha, you are, without a doubt, the bounciest person I have ever met! And your fiancee, fizzes, is sweeter than sweet.

Biggirl, come back, I wanna plaaaaaaaaaay!

Jane D’oh!, it was truly a pleasure to meet you.

Ditto the dozen or so of you I got the chance to talk with - Ringo, Random (and your GF, although that girl really needed to go home), Abe Babe, DrMatrix, Eva Luna, that guy who posts almost as infrequently as I, and other names I can’t recall right now.

And Tiburon kicks ass!

So did anyone find out who won the betting pool on the number of minutes elapsed between when Random walked in the front door and when he got lucky? I almost forgot about that whole episode!

I just wanted to say that both I and my friend Missie had a good time, although all the groping and grabbing and hot girl-on-girl and guy-on-guy action freaked her out a little bit. I guess I didn’t warn her good enough about how wild things can get at a ChiDope.

Met a bunch of new ones and saw a bunch of by now old friends. And the venue was such that many of you I only got to have a brief moment or two with.

Kyla, your look of surprise (I didn’t know I was coming until Thursday night) on seeing me really made me feel welcome. Thanks, dear, and I hope you’re doing well. You were doing just fine Saturday night. :slight_smile:

There were many more old acquaintance I was only able to spend a fleeting second or so with; I barely got to greet Joey Hemlock and Demo. I did get to talk with Boli, but that, too, was brief.

All I did was say goodnight to jarbabyj.

Whew, I’m gonna leave a lot of y’all out, but not by design.

I was glad to at least say hello to Lurkmeister and Kat, although we didn’t get much further than that. I’m glad y’all came.

Unc and porcupine - it was good to see y’all, even if we didn’t get to ramble on that much. I’m going to associate y’all with good eats. I hope your cerebral travails turn out well, porcupine.

Smackfu - good guy; sounds like you had fun. And Hamster; man, where would I be without you? Still at the bar, I suppose. I am going to bug Vino (my around-the-corner liquor store owner) for some Kawartha Lakes Raspberry Wheat Beer. I shoulda told you to scarf that bottle of vodka when you ransacked my room.

peri, it was good to meet you. Come to more of these things.

Oh. Now’at I’m looking at SmackFu’s photos, here’s what I can add:

D958 has Dr. Matrix, Gaudere and Abe Babe, and I think Eva Luna (although it could just as easily be Judith). D967 has Ms. Maple (I think that’s one of Katie’s friends who was introduced to me as “not on the board”, thus saving me from having to think “When was the last time I was at a dopefest and met 3 dopers whose SNs I didn’t recognize?”).

I’m going to assume that someone else will have a better handle (old BBS-style joke. Get it?) on who-all is in the two group shots. I can ID some, but I newly met too many people to be able to recognize them from their ears or whatever.

Home safe and sound! It was extremely nice to meet those of you I caught up with, particulary Biggirl, who is invited to live with me forever.

My non-board friend’s name is Mabel, not Maple.

Mostly, though, I miss Jeff the bartender at the hotel.

SmackFu, those really are excellent photos of the Museum Campus. The one of the Shedd emphasizes how much I have to go and see the sharks.

Great pictures, everyone. Great meeting everyone! I have to also give mad props to the Chicago scouting crew. You picked a good place, though we warmed it right up. I think you guys were thinking, “Ah, if it’s warm enough, people will start getting naked!” Depraved Midwesterners. (Gundy, next time, we’ll talk, believe me.) Anyway, next year you can add me to the scouting ranks, as I move to Chicago at the beginning of July.

Anyway, many thanks to everyone who wished DynoSaur and I happiness. I appreciate that very much. Jane D’oh, sorry we almost sent you into sugar shock. Good thing we didn’t spend too much time near fizzestothetop (You’re a lovely person, by the way. I’m sorry we were scary.) and iampunha (To whom I respond: naturally calming visage–what? But thank you.).

It was a good DopeFest. Good people, good drinks, a KICK-ASS thunderstorm. Everyone looked great. You guys clean up real good. Woo!
