Chief's Log #13: I'm home!!!

Fellow Dopers:

The ship just sent over the first lines and the mighty IKE is again moored at Pier 12 North, Norfolk Naval Base. Six months have come and gone – that’s a long time.
I’ve been to ten different ports of call, though I was unable to get ashore in some. I’ve been to the Persian Gulf enforcing UN sanctions on Iraq, hosted two heads of state, toured nine different U.S. ambassadors, given general tours to more than 11,000 foreign nationals, crossed the Atlantic and did the Ditch twice and endured temperatures in excess of 120 degrees.
Through it all there’s been one thing I could count on – the kind group folks on this board.
You were with me as I drank my morning coffee each day. You were a steadying influence when I became frustrated. You sent out to me positive vibes. You tolerated my quirks, redundant rants and peccadilloes.
You sent me well wishes, postcards, candy and cookies.
Irreconcilable flirting, tracking down and debunking the drowning bird conundrum, an intentionally posted smiley (2 actually!), my rants against smiley users, my continuing quest for fine willing woman flesh... You know me better than I know myself!
There’ve been highlights: a faster board, more features, a veritable explosion of registered posters, reg melodramas and the cornucopia of sexual threads.
There’ve been lowlights: the troll/sock puppet invasions and, of course, the passing of Wally.
I hope that I’ve returned to you some semblance of entertainment, diversity, and joie de vivre and not just withdrawn what I needed from the board.
From the deepest recesses of my being, I want to thank you for enabling me to endure a half-year away from my son and from “normal” life. I couldn’t ask for a better on-line family.
I now get to spend an entire weekend with my son. Putt-putt, Jeepers and grilled cheese sandwiches loom in my immediate future – I couldn’t be more delighted! Thank you for keeping me sane enough to be able to enjoy this reunification time with my son.
I was going to attempt to name all the specific Dopers who’ve been so kind. Unfortunately, the list would stretch to the horizon and I would still probably omit someone, so I’m not gonna try. Manny, manny of you I will meet next weekend. This Dopefest and my son are what have kept me going the last two months. I look forward to kicking all your asses at 8- or 9-ball!
I shall be the putz in spanky clean whites with a chest full of fruit salad.
For those not attending, I’m sure an adequate thread will be generated so you may attend vicariously.
Well, my son is waiting, so again thank you – all of you – for being my friends and being a part of this insane uber-reality known as the SDMB.

ChiefScott sends

Welcome Home Chief! Enjoy!

I don’t know you that well,
maybe I get to know you, who knows,
but I enjoy reading you.
So, I say välkommen hem(welcome home).
And see, no smielies, I’ve learned that now.

Here Here! Err… Ahoy! Batten down the hatches! Or something!

Welcome back. My grandad was in the Coast Guard, so obviously the Coast Guard is better than the Navy. Actually, the Navy wouldn’t take him. (Too tall or something.)

Knock it off and go see your son will ya!

Welcome home, Chief! Hope you have a blast with your son.

I’m omitting smilies from this post in honor of your return.

Welcome Home!
Zette

Welcome home, Chief. I’ll quaff one in your honor.

Have fun scraping off the barnacles at the Dope Fest.

Welcome home, Chief!
I’m glad you’re home and glad you’ll be with your son so soon.

But, dammit, you need to quit making me tear up like that.
Have a blast! Heres hoping Skirmie kicks his old mans butt at putt-putt.

3 things.

  1. Welcome home - go have fun!
  2. the cornucopia of sexual threads - isn’t that a pornucopia?
  3. Pickled dildoes? Why didn’t you say so? i’d have flirted sooner…

I raise my glass to ya, ChiefScott and welcome you home.

:: sacrifing a smiley for the Chief ::

Looking forward to meeting you in Norfolk, Chief! Welcome home!

Thanks, ChiefScott, really. That was beautiful.

Now get the hell off the computer and go and see your son, already!

We’ll be here waiting when you get back.

::wishes Norfolk was in the neighbourhood::

Welcome home Chief! I wish I could attend the Dopefest because I would kick your ass at 9-ball. Have a great time with your son.

Hugs & Kisses!
Rachelle

Chief Scott is on the loose!

Welcome home, Chiefie…have a blessedly wonderful time with your son. How old is he?

I’ve enjoyed your “company” on the boards and do hope you’ll come by every now and then for the courtesy horny sailor comment. (winkie face removed)

See you around, I hope!

Oh, God, the Navy’s back in town!!

…horrible flashbacks to a time (1983) when I was a young MP doing a tour with the Joint Services Military Police in Honolulu and the night that the USS Ranger battle group got into Pearl.

:::shaking head violently:::

Oh well, welcome back sailor, Bravo Zulu.

Welcome home, sailor.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again…

Welcome home, Scott.

Have a wonderful weekend with your son…I know you’ve been looking forward to it for weeks. And then you get to meet all us crazies next weekend.

And dammit, you made me cry, sailorboy.

Welcome home, Chief.

(I’m about to let my wife go out to Norfolk?? What was I thinking???)

Seriously, welcome back and thank you for a job well done.

I’m so glad you made it home in one piece. Have a great time with your son. Lucky kid.
