ChiefScott: Part Deux

<Yawns>

<Stretches>

<Throws covers off, swings legs over side of bed, sits up, scratches head, scratches butt>

<Stands, shuffles over to coffee maker and turns on>

<Turns, notices Teeming Millions>

Yo! What’s up?

I’ve been away for a while but have been lurking here recently. I realized I missed this damn place, so I shot an e-mail to the minions of the webmaster to see if my old username was available, broke out my credit card and here I am.

To catch you up (if’n yer so inclined):
I retired from the US Navy as a chief petty officer in 2003 and was hired by a high-value products delivery company to an entry level position.
After four years, I’d worked myself up to Operations Manager of the New York Distribution Center. Also after four years, I realized I hated the job.
I recently found an open public affairs position at a Naval Weapons Station 12 minutes from my Jersey Shore home, I applied, was found to be eminently qualified and was hired.
Hence, I’m now a civilian, living where I want with my gorgeous wife and 14-year-old son, making a decent living, working for an organization I care deeply about and get to go home EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!
What more could I ask for?

What more could you ask for?
A robot to handle all of these dreary chores springs to mind.

Wow, it’s amazing your kid is 14 now! It’s hard to realize you’ve been AWOL, er, I mean, MIA, er, I mean gone for that long.

(Hey, those of you who don’t know the Chief–don’t use any freakin’ smileys in one of his threads, m’kay? It could get…ugly.)

Hey, welcome back! I’ve wondered about you occasionally since you left. Glad to hear you’re doing so well. Home every night is a good thing.

Welcome back! I was actually wondering about you not that long ago. Not that we ever had any interaction on the board. You are just one of the dopers that stand out. Congrats on the new job!

I saw you in another thread. You probably don’t know who the hell I am, but it’s good to see you again.

It’s nice to see your name again, and to hear that you’re doing well. I’ve thought about you many times since you disappeared – please stick around and help liven the place up.

Well, if I’m remembering right, I’d say the answer to that probably involves boobs. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve got boobs, but no idea who ChiefScott is. Welcome back anyway.

I know I know, we welcome our new Boob overloards, whatever.

Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out.
Welcome back to that same old place that you laughed about.
Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they’re turned around.

Partial lyrics only. I know the rules.

Congratulations on having the good life.

So you traded “Haze gray and under way” for “Haze gray by Sandy Hook Bay?” (I’m guessing. I have no idea where Naval Weapons Station 12 is.)

I still remember something profound you wrote, and I think I’m quoting it correctly, as follows:

“Trimmed or shaven, good.”
“Yeti, bad.”

Those words will stick with me forever.

Welcome back.

I bemember you! Welcome back! Did you bring us presents??

Welcome back, old timer. (I was formerly Libertarian.)

Hey, Chief Scott!
Glad to hear all is going well in your retirement from service.

I so remember your posts from on ship, and, yer tremendous wit. Back in the day when I was a newbie, ChiefScott was one of the pillars here who cracked me up often, and made keep readin’.

Welcome back, Chief!
:slight_smile: :cool: :smiley: :stuck_out_tongue: :smack: :wink:

(I’m generally against smilie abuse, but since it’s you…)

Too cool! Glad to see you back, Chief!

Welcome back ChiefScott, I joined after you went AWOL, but I noticed you are virtually a neighbor and I was wondering what ships you served on.

I was on the USS Ranger 1985 to 1989. I was an EM3.

Jim

Welcome back, ChiefScott, from someone whom you probably have no idea who it is…

I remember ChiefScott performing one of those truly Doperlike feats, searching down the cause of the birds “drowning” in The Perfect Storm.

Thanks all! 'Preciate the welcome. Sorry, no presents save for my good looks and sparkly personality (and those are tenuous at best). I’ve got a bit of catching up to do, but if the community is still as vibrant as it once was, I plan to remain here for a while.
