Wow. His last activity here was August 3, and the obit said he died August 5.

Unfortunately, the two I remember best disappeared in some purge or another. In one, he relentlessly unloaded on some hapless newby who had posted the “-gry” riddle. One of the mods was deleting posts as fast as he was unloading them.
And in another one, he was calling a court to order to adress the charges that SanibelMan had dropped a friend’s dog on a hard tile floor. Too bad they’re gone. . . .
And as others have said. . . “Haze gray and underway”
He was awarded a Bronze Star? I never knew that, but somehow it doesn’t surprise me.

How…interesting that I should log into the boards again now, when I so rarely do. I and my husband interacted with the Chief many times on the boards. My husband was active duty (AF) as well, at the time, and at one point, was returning from a deployment in Saudi Arabia just as the Chief was heading out for one in the Persian Gulf. He had a rather humerous and vulgar comment about that, as I recall. We also privately communicated, and made vague ‘someday’ plans to get a drink. I wish that had actually happened. Fair winds and following seas, brother.
ChiefScott was one of my favorite Dopers in the early days. 'Tis a sad day, indeed. I hope someone who knows the family can express our condolences to them and share our joy of his written words with them.
