Childhood Commercials

To add to the car commercials,

“Long Beach Freeway, Firestone Exit, Southgate Pete Ellis Dodge!” complete with a bouncing ball over the lyrics.

My older brother worked at Jack in the Box for a few years in high school and I feel like there was some jingle we always sang but the only one I can remember is

Jj Jack JjJack Jjack Jack in the Box
You’re really cookin’ now

Did they have another, well known song?

“Gonna be a scorcher!”

“…cool”

In the late-'70s we had a neighbour from the Philippines who thought the Cal Worthington commercial jingle was saying ‘Pussy Cal’. There was a Doper who got his or her username from the same mis-hearing: PussyCow.

More of a regional one, for the folks in the midwest: Roll On, Big O!

Oh, dear, that got right past me! Apologies to WOOKINPANUB, though obviously we have the same taste in childhood commercials!

LOL, I’m going to be saying, “EES NEXT…” all day today!

Ha! They actually made reference to this commercial and Robert Conrad on ESPN’s PTI. Then wondered out loud if anyone in the audience would get it.

I’m sure many around my age, who grew up in the 70’s, will remember this classic Calgon Detergent Ad:

But, what I wonder is, just how long this ad ran? Over the years I’ve heard people, stand-up comics, etc… make reference to it “Ancient Chinese secret…” and many much younger than me, get the reference.
Did it run through the 1980’s?
through the 90’s?

“Please don’t squeeze the Charmin.”

I remember as a kid squeezing it in the grocery store to see what the big deal was.

And Bellflower!

I definitely remember it from the 70s and I have a vague memory that it made a comeback some time later. I can’t imagine the outrage if they ran it today.

Re the Robert Conrad battery commercial, does anyone remember one of the old variety shows - I think it was Carol Burnett - where they spoofed this and when the guys says “I dare you to know this off my shoulder” he get’s punched in the face?

You’re soaking in it.

Yeah, it might have been Lyle Wagner doing the spoof.
Meanwhile, here’s Johnny Carson spoofing that ad:

Nestle Alpine White, which I just learned from this link that the style was based on the early 20th century works of American painter Maxfield Parrish and the music was by Faith No More.

I’m fairly certain that it ran in the early 80s.

And its companion piece…
“Ok, last time. This is your brain (holds up egg), and this is drugs (holds up frying pan), and this is your brain on drugs (cracks egg in frying pan). Any questions?”

(Add diced ham, chopped onions, chopped bell peppers, and cheese) ‘This is your brain on drugs in Denver.’

You know if you think about it, his wife is quite a bitch, making him look stupid in front of a customer, and also likely losing that customer. also, what sort of laundry does it’s work in a simple home washer?

San Diego 50’s kid here, with two more:
Truman Motors in El Cajon, Bill Bailey: “I’m telling you, friends and neighbors- Come Get 'em.”

And “Fill’er up ding ding! Fill’er up ding! ding! You save with Douglas Gasoline.”

Discuss.

Edit: on second thought, Bill B may have said “I tell you neighbors”

“It didn’t break!”

“Time to make the donuts”

And

“I can’t believe I ate the whoooole thing”
