Childhood Foods

Your goulash sounds like one of my favorites, hamburger stew, except instead of macaroni, I put in a bag frozen mixed vegetables and a can of creamed corn. My ex was okay with it until the addition of the creamed corn which gives it a slightly sweet flavor. This is only thing creamed corn is ever used for. But that’s how my Mom always made it.

This started when I was older, but it’s even better with a couple of slices of fried Spam. Not cut up or cubed, just sliced into slabs. The saltiness counters the slight sweetness of the stew perfectly.

Fluffernutter.

I still eat one a few times a year. A very guilty pleasure.

A mustard sandwich, made with really soft bread, like Wonder bread. Eat the crust off. Smash the sandwich flat and tear it into strips. Peel them apart and eat. Yes, I still do this every once in awhile. I have the soft white bread right now for the all-important leftover turkey sandwiches, so a mustard sandwich just might make an appearance this weekend.

My dad taught me this: a chunk of butter on a a plate, pour sorghum over and mash and mix together. put on hot split biscuit. repeat as desired.

Apple wedges dipped in honey. :o

Peanut butter, and jam, straight out of the jar. Hell, I do that all the time now, too.

Peanut butter with Nestles Quik stirred in. Peanut butter and chocolate, mmmmmmmmmmm! :o

Applesauce and cottage cheese (preferably large curd). I still eat this if I’m having dental or stomach problems.

From IHOP: Pigs in blankets (links of breakfast sausage wrapped in plain pancakes) with boysenberry syrup, German pancakes with powdered sugar and lemon juice, and chocolate pancakes.

Dutch Babies, cooked in a hot buttered dish in the oven, coming out all puffed up for a minute or two.
