Chili and jelly really aren't bad together

I saw something about this on reddit, someone claimed that a person entered a bunch of cans of hormel chili and a jar of grape jelly into a chili cookoff and won. Then everyone got pissed off.

So I decided to try it. I have blueberry jelly, it mixed fairly well with hormel chili.

Normally I eat chili with shredded cheese and sour cream, or on top of spaghetti. But mixed with jelly its pretty good.

Frozen meatballs + chili sauce + grape jelly in a crock pot are a standard party food for us.

Chile (spicy peppers) and jelly is also good. The sweet and hot go well together.

Do you use a stove top, crock pot or something else?

Grape jelly and chili sauce meatballs. We did it with BBQ sauce like here. It’s a fairly standard appetizer in at least the circles I run in. It’s not my personal favorite, but it’s a crowdpleaser.

I used to serve grape jelly and chili sauce meatballs over either rive or egg noodles as a meal. Haven’t made it in years, but now I have a taste for it. Which means I’m going to have to buy some grape jelly.

You guys are all totally insane.

Except for filmore. Jellied hot chiles ARE really good. On a cracker with a schmear of cream cheese.

I just got back from helping my mom out at a farmers’ market, where one of the things she was selling was jalapeno pear jam. Similar concept.

This is Alice’s (from Alice’s Restaurant) recipe.

What do you mean by chili sauce?

I’ve done bbq sauce, grape jelly and cocktail weenies, in a crock pot.

I don’t know about chili and jelly but chili and cinnamon rolls are a classic and wonderfully tasty combo out here in the land of the thick thighs.

1 28 oz. bag of frozen meatballs

8 oz. of grape jelly

1 12 oz. jar of Heinz chili sauce

A tablespoon or two of Dijon mustard.

Throw the lot in a crockpot (I have a small one I use for this) and cook on low for 1-2 hours if the meatballs are thawed when you start, or 4 hours if not.

People love these. I take them to potlucks and there are never any left.

And has been for at least 40 years.

Yup. Grape jelly meatballs. Classic.

What

The

Fuck?

Heinz Chili Sauce. It’s essentially just ketchup with a spicier flavor (but not really all that spicy.)

We make jalapeno jelly every couple of years. Good stuff.
