Chillin' in the MMP

Mornin’ all. Tis 62 and pouring outside. No mowage happening, drat. I’ve already been productive today–new sheets on the bed, laundry running, stuck the winter clothes into storage, got the summer clothes out of storage. Not sure what the day will hold from here on.

taters Good on you for doing good works.

Happy Saturday!

Nice 60 degrees at the park this morning. Everything was very wet from all the rain yesterday.
No Barky, which was a relief.

When I got home, my neighbor was out back, so I spent some time talking with her.

Yesterday was a not so nice day.
My son got off irk at 330 am, only every time he tried to call me to come get him, his phone hung up. Finally, he googled the problem and all he had to do was restart his phone. I didn’t get to him until 530.
I didn’t get paid, and I couldn’t call to ask about it until after 8am. Right before 8, I got the notification that my paycheck was deposited. Our paychecks were screwed up a few weeks ago, so that had me a bit worried.
My basement has a huge puddle in it from all the rain. I think it’s the downspout causing the problem.
My mother found out that she has Macular Degeneration now. I know I have the gene for it because of 23 and Me, but never knew anybody in the family with it until my uncle got diagnosed recently. Now my mother has it too.
I’ll read up on it and see what I can do to prevent/slow it down.

Tetanus is the one vaccine I DO want and I can’t get any doctor to give it to me. They say I have to have an injury first.

I have a lot to do around here, and have to get the lawn guy out to check the gutters/downspout.
Always something.

Well, I just stuck my hand into a moving ceiling fan, so the day is off to a great start. Don’t think I broke any bones, but the bruise is already showing up.

It’s going to be busy at the Zoo. I hate holiday weekends. All the stupid people come out.

Okay. Deep breath. It’ll be OK.

Yep, that’s true on the water in spades. But we may go out for a little bit tomorrow. The grands will be with their other grandmother, SIL has to work but Daughter wants to go.

We’ve spent some hours figuring out where the water hoses run for our 3 air conditioners. We came home to get a couple more tools and have lunch, and we’ll head back to the marina in a bit to get some more done. I almost said “finish up” but when you own a boat, you’re never finished with chores and stuff… Hole in the water into which you pour money, yanno.

At least the weather is glorious!

Wifey randomly suggested we go to Red Rum Tiki Bar this afternoon. Sounds good to me!

Not enough for a kitten… hmmm, ducks?

Yay! Say hello to the place for me. Have fun and check in when you can.

Boo Fae Enjoy the bands and have a pint for me.

I’m so glad. It’s wonderful to find a purpose in your work. Are there any legislative remedies that would help, such as requiring builders to make a certain percentage of units low income?

Sari how is your neighbor doing now?

It’s an actual weekend!
: starts laundry and naps :

I didn’t know swampy and OYKW were in England, too.

Glad it was a good trip, Taters.

After 30 years in retail, me too. And hope the hand isn’t too bad.

Hi everyone,
It’s been a while since I posted in the MMP. I’m home on sick leave for another two weeks and have garneded a modnote and a warning on this board since then. Apparently I’m bored and not able to keep my mouth shut when appropriate. Story of my life I guess.
No work for another two weeks is fine with me. I’m not really sure how things will be afterwards, but I was increasingly exhausted by everything I couldn’t provide even though it was needed. Losing a client to suicide a couple of months ago that has since made the national news has certainly not been helping. Hugs and love and encouragement where needed and desired, I’ll probably be posting more than average in the upcoming weeks.

I haven’t been in a good place since the school shootings. I know I’m not alone there. I thought I was doing better, but then a good friend who has a teen-aged son said she would never have had him if she’d known how crappy the world was going to be. She’s said this before, and has even advised him never to have kids. Anyway, she’s the third person to say something like this recently, and I’d had it. I told her that yes, the world is in a terrible crisis right now, but dammit, people with kids can’t afford the luxury of that kind of fatalism, that the nitty-gritty reality is we’re the ones who do force change because we have to. We both ended up crying and talking about how overwhelmed we are by what’s going on in our own lives, and I realized I’m emotionally exhausted. Boy, that’s a huge club, right?

Anyway, that’s why I wasn’t around for a couple days.

Wheelz, I hope the madding crowds leave their stupid at home.

FCM, I never thought about the fact stupid and stupid-drunk people on the highways would also be stupid on the water. Are there more boating accidents on holiday weekends?

Sari, I feels ya, girlfriend. I’m especially sorry about the macular degeneration gene. My brother has it, and he’s on some kind of med that slows it down. I hope yours never starts, and I’m sorry about your mom.

Taters, THANK YOU! I learned a lot from your last post, and it was heartening. I’m so glad you have a renewed passion for your very important work.

swampy, thanks for reminding me to ask my doc when my last tetanus shot was. I’ve been poked so many times the past 13 mos. or so (4 COVID, two flu, two shingles , two pneumonia) that I can’t recall what I had before then.

Speaking of barbed wire, as Boo did, here’s a fun fact: If you get cut by barbed wire, docs almost never stitch you up because there’s a 100% chance of infection. This from the ER doc who treated my young daughter for dozens of barbed wire cuts after a horrendous wreck that totaled her bike.

BooFae, you and your weather app crack me up.

WetOne, looking forward to happy reports from abroad!

Work is at a standstill till FCD figures out why we can’t plug the shore power cable into the boat. Not a lot of space to work. All I can do is pass tools to him. Frustrating…

And we figured out the shore power, got it all fixed, and we’ll now have 'lectricity at the dock. But we didn’t pull any hoses - maybe tomorrow? FCD is now in the shower and I’m about to plop down in my recliner.

I have a hankerin’ for a peanut buster parfait. :ice_cream:

Bailey has been admitted to the animal hospital. :frowning:

Her GI issues didn’t improve overnight, and she was clearly in pain this morning. My regular vet was slammed and couldn’t fit her in, so I took her to a nearby animal ER. I dropped her off at around 11am: I was told it might be 5-6 hours before someone could call me, but I heard from the vet after a couple of hours. I agreed to bloodwork and xrays, and the doc also recommended admitting her due to her extreme discomfort and the fact that she weighs 43 pounds and is normally 47-48 pounds. The doc called again about an hour ago: luckily, the labs and xrays were all normal/clear. Bailey’s blood pressure is a little low (it’s in the 70s and should be 120), but that could be due to dehydration. The doc still thinks keeping her overnight is the right thing to do, and I agree. They’ve already given her a shot for pain, and will be pushing fluids and meds between now and tomorrow morning. If she doesn’t improve overnight they might talk to me about an abdominal ultrasound, but I’m crossing my fingers that some pain relief and medication will help break the cycle of whatever’s going on.

I miss my girl and hate that she’s feeling so bad, but I know she’s where she needs to be right now. I’m grateful that the weather is finally beautiful again and I’ve been able to have the windows open, and I’m glad that Monday is a holiday so I’ll have an extra day of being able to focus on the doggy. Hopefully she’ll be home by lunchtime tomorrow.

misnomer My best to Bailey. You’re doing the right thing by having her at the hospital. I hope she’s home with you soonest.

After my good start I managed to get nothing else done today. Tomorrow will be the mowing. Time to think about dinner and perhaps start the new Obi Wan show.

Poor lil girl and poor you. I hope you will be able to sleep tonight, I always fret when one of ours has to spend the day or night at the vet.

Howdy Y’all! We went to the open house, had a McN.O.L., and then had some quality time at the cee-mint pond. Well, OYKW had more quality time than I did. I did not stay out long cause I started feelin’ kinda blah and sluggish and decided inside in the a/c would be best for me. Don’t know what brought that on, other than maybe a little after effect from the booster shot yestiddy. I have a history of gettin’ like that sometimes after a shot.

Boo no worries. I like strange and obscure medical things as well. Not because of my irk life, but because I’m weird like that. I feel all self-righteous and upstandin’ what with my tetanus booster and all. I do not intend to wrestle with barbed wire in the mud. However, klutz that I am, it is for the best to keep up with stuff like tetanus boosters.

Taters glad the trip was so good for you. When I traveled around the country for irk I liked most especially goin’ to rural areas. So much so, in fact, I would get calls from TPTB askin’ me to go to some pretty rural areas cause most folks did not want to do that. I saw a hyuuuuuuuuuuuuge part of the midwest U.S. of A. because of my willingness to go to rural areas. Sounds like your program does some really good work for folks.

sari glad there was no paycheck glitch. No fun at all! My dad had Macular Degeneration so I am concerned about that myself.

Wheelie hope the hand is not too ouchy and the people are not too stooopid today.

WetOne have fun in Merrye Olde Englande. Wave in the general direction of BooFae and Nuts from all of us, Fourteen gays bound for a stag party would be a fun group to party with, should you ever run upon such a thing.

Doc do post more often. Not keepin’ one’s mouth shut and inappropriateness are always welcome in the MMP!

{{{Nellie}}} yes, a whole lot of us feel like that right now. There is no excuse for the fact that such things as atrocious as that keep happenin’.

{{{Oopsie}}} it’s tough to have a fur baby in the horsepistol. I hope Bailey is feelin’ better soonest and gets to come home to be with mama tomorrow.

VanGo that’s the way to do sloth! Get a good sloth momentum goin’ and it’s all downhill from there.

SWMBO sent me to the hardware store to get some potting soil. The 2 cu.ft. bag was heavy, but more unwieldy. I decided to use the wheelbarrow to move it from the car to the back yard. Oops. The wheelbarrow tire was flat. No worries, I have a new inflator. As soon as I finished, I could hear air escaping. I took it off and tried to get the inner tube out. Bent the rim rather a lot. Couldn’t get the tube out.

So I looked online for a new wheel and tire, and found one at Home Despot. The website said they had four in stock. I drive to town, and guess what? They don’t have any. Someone had opened a wheelbarrow kit, presumably to get a part. There was a wheel in the box. The tire was about an inch narrower than mine, and the hub looked longer. The HD guy said I could have it free (‘If it doesn’t fit, you can just throw it away and you’re not out anything.’), and escorted me and the wheel out of the store.

It didn’t quite fit. With a modicum of percussive maintenance on the axle holders though, I did get it to fit. I now have a functioning wheelbarrow.

LOL, I love the phrase percussive maintenance. In other words, use the BFH.

Yep. Only it was just a regular-sized claw hammer.

I’m glad that the kids got the house bumba. Now to clean out the shed. :stuck_out_tongue:

That sounds like a productive trip taters. I’m glad you’ve renewed your sense of purpose about your career.

wet one, I’m envious of you. I always wished that I could have spent more time in the UK instead of layovers on the way to somewhere else.

nellie, yes, drunk boating is an issue. While my experience on oceangoing vessels is nil, I grew up on the lakes and now live around rivers. The PSAs around every warm weather holiday and the local news reports of several accidents make it quite clear that it’s amateur time on the water then.

oopsie, I hope that Bailey is feeling better and home to you soonest.

We had as much fun as two middle aged women could handle at the Lao new year festival. We snacked on some meatballs on a stick, mango salad (SIL was surprised at the heat) and had a wonderful bowl of Lao noodle soup for lunch. We hit World Market so she could pick up some coffee beans when we left (her World Market closed), then hit the good Latino marked, Thai Phooket market and Grace Indian market in my town before swinging through Scooters for some good coffee and a cookie. I’s tah-red!

From Here To Eternity just started on TCM.

Eating carbohydrates tonight [shudder]. Pizza’s in the oven. SWMBO forbade me cooking it with anchovies, so I’ll put them on after it’s done.
