I’ve never seen an episode of BL, but her interview at The Onion’s AV Club was pretty entertaining. As mentioned in the title, she said this season of BL was “awful.” But now she is saying she was taken out of context, exhausted, etc.
Well, it was abysmal. I mean, really, truly awful. I know, actresses ARE supposed to promote their shows. But I can’t really blame her. It’s hard to say anything positive about this season. Laziest writing EVER.
If you listen to the interview there’s no way the words were ‘taken out of context’. The context was she said the season was awful the plot lines were over the top and they had too short a season to tell a story.
I wish more actors were like that. They have to know that sometimes in spite of everyone’s best efforts shows and movies come out awful. I think they’d win a lot more fans if they were willing to occasionally go ‘yeah that was a mistake. We’re going to do our best not to screw up next season as well’.
here is a link to the full interview… she had a lot to say about the plot lines, the writers, and the characters…
You know somethings really bad when on of the actors badmouths it. The last time I remember something like this happening with a TV show was with finale of Stat Trek: Enterprise, These are the Voyages. Jolene Blalock, Anthony Montgomery, Connor Trinneer, John Billingsley, and Jonathan Frakes have gone on record about how “less than pleased” they were with it.
Yeah, Stat Trek was always about the numbers, never the story.
I planned to resub to HBO for The Pacific and I thought about doing it sooner, to catch Big Love, but after reading the threads here, I didn’t. You guys saved me a few months of fees and I want to thank you for that.
And good for Chloe!
A couple of sentences can be taken out of context, but she goes on at length about why this season was insane, so she’s clearly saying what she really thinks. (She’s also pretty hard on herself about her performance in the new movie.) And everything she said about the season is completely true. Blaming the reporter is a crappy thing to do, although I guess that’s what she has to say when HBO demands she take it back. If there’s an irony in her comments, it’s that her character was one of the few things that was done well this season. The ‘loosening up’ worked for me, in general.
No way, man; it was all about the journey, y’dig?
Anyone know what this refers to?
Yeah, it was extremely shitty of her to impugn the reputation of Sean O’Neal, one of my favorite A.V. Club writers (after the supreme Noel Murray).
That piqued my interest too, so I looked around and found this from the AV Club, as referenced in articles such as this from the NY Daily News.
She’s right.
I trust Chloë Sevigny to know what sucks.

Zing!
Good for her. She’s just echoing what most viewers thought.

The actors from Voyager have also complained about the writing and production of their show. Personally I don’t see where the Enterprise cast has anything to complain about. Didn’t they watch Voyager?
