Chocolate Covered Grasshoppers

Anyone ever eaten these? I just ordered some, found out who the TRUE adventurers at work are. :stuck_out_tongue:

Would you ever try one? They had chocolate covered ants and mealworms too, those sounded less appetizing that a cricket with its head, legs, and wings removed, roasted, enclosed in milk chocolate.

Mmmmm…

I never had them with chocolate, but I’ve had grasshoppers pan-roasted and salted. Same with ants. They taste best with some lemongrass and chilis thrown in the mix. I recommend to wash down with cold beers. Maybe precede with same-said cold beers.

I am unexperienced in this area, yet intrigued. Where did you order from?

Yeah, tell us where you ordered them, I’d like to try some of these treats. I don’t know if I’d eat the full-on whole grasshopper though, chocolate or not. That sounds like too much insect per chocolate, unless they are smaller 'hoppers than I’m used to from my childhood days.

Here’s where I got the chocolate covered grasshoppers…

The second link is a grab bag, chocolate covered crickets and (ewww) chocolate covered mealworms.

OK, technically those are just crickets, and not grasshoppers. I could see eatcing crickets, especially with the legs and such removed.

Grasshoppers are another story. Those are big, ugly, leggy things that secrete that nasty tobacco-juice looking stuff. There’s have to be a LOT of chocolate around a TINY grasshopper for me to eat that.

Oh, wow, you’re right! I never even noticed till now…though grasshoppers are a good thing too, I loved those (small hoppers!) Go to google and do a search for “chocolate covered grasshoppers.” Lotsa links!

This book has everything you ever wanted to know about “man eating bugs”.

You know, I hear tarantula is pretty good. If you get the poison out, the meat supposedly tastes like chicken.

I’d eat 'em. I was convinced by the cook in Lonesome Dove that they’d be good. After all, I’ve eaten snails, how bad can bugs be? But meal worms, I’m not sure. I saw what looked like maggots being fried up on a show on MTV one time. I would not eat a maggot, of that I have NO doubt.

But it doesn’t surprise me that it would be MTV where I’d see one consumed.

No, mealworms sound a bit too gross for me as well, don’t think I could handle those. Ugh.

Everything supposidly tastes like chicken… but why should it?
A tarantula is an insect… not a bird!

Does fish taste like chicken? nope…

Does beef/pork/lamb taste like chicken? nope…

Does turkey/pigeon/pheasant taste like chicken?.. nope!

Sorry - this isn’t a flame, its just it seems everyone describes something they haven’t eaten, but heard that other people do, as probably “tasting like chicken”

You may of course be right…

but, I’ve eaten Ostrich, Kangaroo, Snake, Shark, Crocodile, (and some very strange stuff I have no idea what it was in Thailand…) and none of it tasted like chicken!

I’ve yet to do bugs though…

Yeah, so do those things taste like chicken, or does chicken taste like those things?

I know when I went to Korea for a month, there were a few places where I had chicken that DID NOT taste like chicken…hmmm…

Ostrich, Emu, those are red meat. Taste like beef!

Try http://www.exoticmeats.com. You can get everything from antelope to rattlesnake, kangaroo to snapping turtle.

 Well, the only thing I’ve eaten (and thats quite a few things) that tasted like chicken was chicken!

Maybe though - (if you’ve had chicken that didn’t taste like chicken,) the things I ate were supposed to taste like chicken, but didn’t?
Although, I would rather hazzard a guess that what you thought was chicken, wasnt?

:stuck_out_tongue:

I try not to think about it, and I will continue to try not to unless I decide to become a bulimic.
