I did that sort of thing with a shrinkwrap machine when I worked in a computer store.
I would always volunteer to make signs at a previous job because it meant I got to use the laminator. ![]()
I actually like doing laundry, I find the sound of the washer and dryer soothing. Well, until the washer goes off-balance anyways.
Jackhammers and Wacker Packers fall in the same category. But you’ll be sore for days.
I like to iron. Yeah, feel like I’m violating my feminazi oath, but if I get an audio book going and a pile of clothes to be ironed, I’m a steam iron ninja.
I’ve only used a jackhammer once. I had so much fun with it that I hammered away late into the night until the neighbours called the police.
I love snow removal, snow blower, shovel (if it’s not too heavy); I do my neighbors sometimes.
Old job had a business card laminator that I ‘rescued’ when company closed; that’s fun to play with. Most of my trips get custom luggage tags because what else do you do with an inventory of 300 of 'em?
What’s going on with you guys and laminators? Imho, it would be far more fun to get a lighter and do it by hand. Laminators take the fun out of melting stuff.
I don’t know if it counts as a chore but there is an occasional need at work to move stuff around with a forklift. I always volunteer.
Bush Hogging the pasture and driving the tractor. It’s like driving a lawn tractor on steroids. I started driving my uncle’s tractor when I was 12.
It can be dangerous. People have gotten knocked off and bad things happen. But, I’ve always taken my time, been aware of low hanging tree branches and enjoy it.
The neighbourhood drunk has a tractor that he very kindly uses to help the rest of us out when we need to be dug out of a storm, or dig a foundation hole, or split wood with the splitter attachment. Unfortunately, due to him being a drunk, things often get a bit “interesting” to say the least, and quite often one or the other of us will end up having to run the tractor, or run away from the tractor as the [del]case[/del] ford may be.
I used to feel that way until I wanted to help the old couple next door and do their driveway evolved into doing a dozen neighbors every day. Now I loath Winter and hate my snowblower.
Fucking.
Pressure washers are the most fun you can have and still be doing something productive.
We have a 4WD mower, designed to go up very steep hills. I used to hate mowing, but this thing is like an off-road rally car. I love flying across the lawn, engaging the diff lock and tackling a steep bit then going rock hopping. I did once get yelled at because I was hooning around but forgot to engage the mower, so wasn’t actually cutting any grass
Demolition work with a reciprocating saw.
Lawn tractor, definitely. Mrs. R demanded that I buy one, and it’s turned mowing our lawn from a two-hour slog into twenty minutes of fun.
I also enjoy listening to her make cookies, because our KitchenAid mixer has the most marvellous worm-gear sound.
Well it’s not chores so much as work, but folding machines (for brochures and things of that nature). I don’t even mind when they get jammed because pulling the paper bits out is fun too! Mesmerizing to watch, makes a bunch of noise so nobody can bother you, and a wonder of efficiency (when it doesn’t jam).
I spent some time putting things through the shrink wrapper machine just to see what it was like. Shrink wrap your hand! Your shoes! That CD you ended up not liking! And then trying to figure out the best way to seal the plastic on the reams of paper people ordered (you know, what the machine was actually there for) so that the plastic doesn’t shrink TOO much and split at the seams, but isn’t so loose that the papers can shift and get bent edges. Nice little puzzle, never quite figured it out. Good stuff. Liked that machine a lot.
Miss working for an actual print shop and doing the dirty work, I do.
Neighbors ever lend a hand (as far as you know)?
This. I LOVED cutting the pasture using the tractor and brush hog. Took hours and I loved every minute of it.
I also like doing laundry and sweeping with an old-fashioned broom.
I’ve only had one occasion in my life when I needed to cut down a tree. The chainsaw made it worthwhile.
