Ok, can we just decide to be in winter already. Yesterday was in the 60s, today it barely made 40. It’s making the surgically repaired knee ache, I think I’m probably gonna get a cold.
I did get tested fer the 'rona, cuz I didn’t want to bring that back to my elderly parents, and I’m in a hotspot, came back clean. So yay that.
All y’all dealing with hurt ankles/backs/knees/anything else {{{feel better}}}
FCM I, for one, like the idea of a scotsman with bagpipes on a beach.
Travel well, all who are on the move, and stay safe everyone.
Chefguy, I ADORE making croissants. It does take work, but a family memory is involved. The first time I ever made them was for a family Easter dinner over thirty five years ago. I had them done late Saturday the night before. My dad wasn’t feeling well. After he and my mother went to bed, my mother woke me up and said she was taking Dad to the hospital. She was and RN and realized Dad’s symptoms were those of a heart attack. She threw a robe on huim and dragged him out the door while I stayed behind and called the hospital. His father had died of a heart attack at the same age Dad was. Family arrived at the hospital and I noticed we were all sitting around like zombies, so I went home, got the croissants, jelly, butter, napkins and plates. Eating breaks folks out of the zombie zone. I remember they pulled a code blue on him Easter Sunday but he didn’t feel it. He just said "I woke up and a nurse was beatin me on the chest, hollering ‘Wake up Harold, wake up!’ " Dad had surgery a week later and recovered fairly quickly, but also told us “If I had died on Easter what better day to go?”
Sunny Daze, if you want the family for Boston Cream I can post it for you. It’s cooked like fudge, and has corn syrup, sugar, heavy cream, butter, and chopped nuts. Told you it was rich! We always have used black walnuts, but I suppose other nuts could be used.
I’m in bed @7:30 because the pharmacist said to take the muscle relaxant before bed as it causes wooziness, and I was in too much pain to wait. Hopefully it’ll kick in soon.
This reminds me: where can I get the self-test? I want to test before I headed up to my son’s, since he’s at such high risk. I saw CVS has them but Walgreen’s is closer. Yay for good results, VanGo!
Oo! FCM! Would FCD be OK with the Pied Piper? He could be summoning fishies!
Supposed to pack today, plus get tested and then figure out the great uploading of files. And it seems that this doesn’t mean that we get our boarding passes - it just means that they have more time to review the paperwork before we arrive at the airport. So I hope the actual checkin will be smooth.
Have to be at the airport 3 hours before the flight leaves, so an extra hour for paperwork. Including both flights, and airport time, plus travel to and from the start and end airports, it’s about 24 hours door-to-door. For those of you on the west coast, the journey starts Saturday evening and ends Sunday evening.
I am trying to be a responsible adult about packing. But I don’t wanna.
Maybe I’ll start with breakfast. Croissants sound good, but there’s no good ones nearby.
We’ve getting up soon (it’s 6 right now) to begin our day. We’ll head to the boat early and do what we need to, then race back - Roxy wanted to come see us so I invited them to supper. Hot dogs and beans on the menu.
Mooooom, franks and beans made regular appearances on the menu when I was growing up. It’s been a lot of years since I’ve eaten them.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to work on an ongoing organizational project in the studio. Sis should be here this afternoon on her return trip from Dad’s. I’ll see her again at her house in a few days.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 63 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 79 with HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS predicted from mid afternoon into the evenin’. We shall see. No plans to leave da cave today. I have a bunch (two bunches to be exact) of collard greens to clean. We’ll have some for Christmas feast and also some for the NYD feast. Any need to feed will be via forage.
Nellie hope the back is feelin’ better today.
CupCake I too love the croissant story.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
I’m debating going out walkies, but I’m having trouble accumulating enough damns; it’s been dismal, muddy and grey all week- the sort of weather where I just want to stay in bed until March. I’m also trying to get at least one of the 3 modules I have to do course-irk for finished before Christmas, so I’m not coming back with a huge backlog. Bleh.
I still need to get the last few presents, I’ll see if I can exchange some of the stuff I got for the cousin’s kids, as I mis-remembered the details of what they wanted when I was at the toy shop. I don’t want to be like my aunt- their Grandma, who always got me the wrong things as a kid- stuff for toddlers when I was 10, that kind of thing. If they want a specific LEGO set, that specific LEGO set they shall have, within appropriate price constraints.
It’s around 35 degrees with an expected high of around 50. Gusty winds and rain are supposed to move in around noon or so and a goodly amount of snow is expected in the mountains.
I didn’t get any of my erranding done yesterday; so it shall happen today. I tinkered around with some chores and other things and then decided to just stay home. Errands shall happen today before the rains begin.
I’m sorry your back is causing you so much pain, nellie. I hope the muscle relaxers work. I am also glad you won’t be alone on Christmas.
I hope everything goes smoothly, Die_Capacitrix. You will all probably super wired or super tired when you arrive at your destination.
I am annoyed. My stupid garbage company didn’t pick both my recycling and garbage. Both are full. My account is current (it’s the first thing I checked in case I spaced out) and both bins were set out so the trucks could reach the bins with ease. We didn’t realize the bins hadn’t been emptied until after office hours yesterday. Of course, no one is in the office on Saturdays, but I left them an email and will call them first thing on Monday because I need those bins emptied before the next scheduled pick-up. I have a bad feeling my dumb-*ssed neighbor’s parking may have had something to do with this and if so, I’m going to insist we start towing these idiots. I’d like to get along with my neighbors and both my husband and HOA officers have talked to them about their on-street parking, but now my garbage isn’t getting picked up and it’s not the first time. They make it very difficult to get out of my driveway because they park two and sometimes three vehicles at the curb. Not nose to tail, but side to side. I’m so sick of this stuff.
I would just like for stuff to go smoothly, but it seems I’m surrounded by idiots on both sides of my house now and nothing is done about them. Makes me wonder why the hell I am paying dues. The problem is that particular home has turned into a rental house and the owner seems very scammy. I’ve looked him up.
Rainy 39 degrees at the park this morning.
Only four people and five dogs.
No Barky, so no tension.
Lily pulled a Lily today and refused to leave. Echo would have pulled a Lily, but I had treats in my pocket. Once Lily saw that everybody else was leaving, she decided that maybe she could leave too. The extra treats I had gave her that last little push.
I have a lot to do today. No idea how much will get done. It seems like not much is getting done around here lately,
Are you in Colorado because that’s my forecast too.
We are boarding a plane in less than 12 hours. Last night I asked Mrs Cad if we needed to check-in. “No.” was the reply. “I paid for early bird check-in. They do that for you.” This morning got up early. Decided to print our boarding passes. But to do that, I had to check-in first. We’re now #s 41, 42, 43 in the queue.
So, I vanished from the MMP for a couple of weeks. Hope you’re all well.
You may recall that I had been diagnosed with an abdominal hernia, and was headed to see a surgeon about it. Well, the entire affair turned out to be kind of a snipe hunt.
After an inconclusive visit with the surgeon, then a CT scan, and then a full week of phone tag with the surgeon’s office, I finally got some answers on Thursday:
I do not, in fact, have a hernia
The good news is that there is also no sign of anything bad in my abdomen which could have been posing as a hernia
But, the frustrating part, as the surgeon said, is “There’s no sign of anything in the CT report which would be causing abdominal pain.”
So, I’m back to square one. I’m going to be setting up an appointment with a GP to help me figure out what’s up; my suspicion, at this point, is either some sort of digestive thing, or a gallbladder issue; either way, it’s undoubtedly being exacerbated by general stress.
All told, haven’t been feeling too badly with it all the past couple of days. I’m in a better head-space now that I have at least some understanding of what’s going on (or, more importantly, that it’s not something horrible, which was in the back of my mind).
We’re going to have dinner at some friends’ house tonight, and exchange Christmas presents with them. I have three days of work next week, and then I’m done for 2020. Wheeee!
Alas, it does not. The muscle relaxer knocked me out, but when I got up this morning, the pain was undiminished. Does that indicate it’s not muscular? I really, really need this to get fixed pronto. I HAVE to be fully operational so I can care for my sister before her knee surgery in early January. There simply isn’t anyone else.
And here’s a question: I’m supposed to take the muscle relaxer 3 times a day, but how would I be able to function?
We have a 100% chance of heavy rain with gusty wind, which explains why it’s rainy and gusty.
Taters, hope either your stupid garbage company or stupid neighbors quit complicating your life .
obi, hope they get the tummy woes sorted.
cad, that’s not a very early early bird service if it doesn’t kick in before you have to print boarding passes. Bon voyage, though.!
Ha-ha, it’s Christmas barking in the MMP today. That poor puppy downstairs has been barking and crying nonstop for the past three hours. (Well, not quite nonstop. If I call downward, “It’s OK, puppy, they’ll be home soon!” he stops for 10-15 seconds.) I finally couldn’t stand it any more and called the office. I said maybe the owners don’t know Puppy does this since it’s only when they’re not home. (It’s a VERY quiet dog otherwise.) The assistant manager said she’d text and let them know in a very “We’re just worried about the dog and also, this will be a problem if it continues” way.
We got just about everything we wanted to do on the boat - probably spent about 2 hours on various tasks. We stopped at Aldi on the way home for buns and chips and dessert (the total was $6.66!!!), and shortly after we got here, daughter and the grands arrived. SIL was playing video games with his brother. We had a nice supper, and afterwards, I cleaned the kitchen sink so Toby could get his first bath. He’s nice and clean now. And they’ve gone home, so it’s quiet.
Disney split from youtube tv, so we lost the local ABC station, dammit. That’s the news we prefer to watch, not to mention Jeopardy. I’m going to call the cable company on Moanday and find out what their packages cost. Since we’re current customers, we can’t see anything on the website, and you can’t get any info if you don’t put in a valid local address. Our youtube tv bill will go down by $15/mo which is what Disney charges, but I don’t know that we can still get the local station. Must investigate.
