Christmas Baking in the MMP

And so many of them suck!!! Were it not for my spousal unit, I’d dump most services.

The weather is getting miserabler and miserabler here. I may wait till tomorrow to fetch milk - it’s not like we need it today. I’ve got a load of towels in the washer and I’m going to try out my sous vide device today with a couple of steaks. Exciting, huh?

The 10-day forecast calls for a rain/snow mix Thursday and Friday. It’s calling for snow from Christmas Day through January 2nd (as far out as the forecast goes). Given a projected high of 37º Ferret Height on Tuesday, I wouldn’t be surprised to see snow then. I have to go to the orifice Tuesday, and I’m sure I’ll see snow as I drive through the Chuckanuts.

Laying low here on the great windswept prairie. Survived the record December derecho we enjoyed Wednesday. Getting ready to head out for my Sunday play day with my grand daughter and grand son. Their mom, my daughter, turns 35 today and she is feeling it. Have I got news for her!

The moment she was born was the happiest minute of my life~I wanted a daughter more than anything and I sure got one! “Tiny but mighty” we always refer to her and that hasn’t changed with the years. Brought her home from the hospital on the 23rd. That was the year everybody got their presents stapled in brown paper grocery bags-I’d been on pregnancy bedrest for months. Happy times.

Cold and only partly sunny here~we may get up to 38 degrees later, may not. May have rain, may not. I’d be snuggled up to grand babies either way. Then home to my electric mattress pad.

Hugs to all.

Won’t be a white Xmas here in no. Illinois and I don’t care. Ended up in the ED AGAIN yesterday with tachycardia. I took the emergency beta blocker then drove to the hospital. The heart calmed down in an hour and the MD told me to take the BBS until I see the cardiologist. The BBS slow down the heart, but make me so sleepy that I need a nap. zzzzzzzzzzzz

I’m almost afraid to say it, but my back seems a tad better today. [ducks in case forces of evil decide to use spine as a xylophone] I didn’t get my Saturday chores done yesterday, so I’ll have to break my mom’s rule and do some work today–laundry, run and empty the dishwasher, clean out the fridge, water plants, etc.

I started a thread about this, but yesterday I found out Mom and Dad’s retirement house is getting demolished. I took my kids there every summer for 30 years. (They’re9 years apart.) So many happy memories there! Drinking wine on the porch, watching old movies together (Mom would fall asleep in the middle, wake up, and say, “This movie doesn’t make sense!”), gathering around the dining room table to eat pasta…so many memories captured in that place. Things tend to outlive people by so long that it’s hard to remember they must pass, too.

Growing up in Chicago, we had the three networks (ABC on channel 7, NBC on channel 5, CBS on channel 2, local WGN (“Bozo’s Circus is on the air!” and Garfield Goose) on 9 and PBS on 11, plus one channel on UHF–I can’t remember what it was, but there was a funny show that replaced original movie dialogue with comic voiceovers, and on weekends, it showed bullfighting, which I loathed. It took 30 seconds to determine there was nothing good on. Then you turned off TV and waited for the white dot to fade. Good memories.

Butters, hope your AL (aggravation level) goes down. Don’t turn on the news. (I’d send you hugs, but if one is aggravated, hugs might be annoying.)

I wish. I got an anxiety attack from cannabis when I was young and foolish, and I’m told it was the THC. I’ve been afraid to try it since. I’m told it depends on the strain. Maybe I should look into it again. We can’t smoke in my complex, so it’d have to be an edible, I guess.

Misery does not love company here. I’m so sorry you’re having pain. I will definitely try the alcohol ice, as soon as I get some rubbing alcohol. Would vodka work? I’ve got tons of that.

Huh, I didn’t realise you got UK parliamentary debates shown your side of the pond…

Apartment is cleaned, Gordie has been dragged kicking and screaming to do his afternoon business, time for some more handegg.

I loved Question Time. Or was it Owl Stretching Time? I get them confused.

Very not good :frowning: I do wonder if you should be driving when that is happening. You could get confused and lost which could have very bad results. I hope your cardio guy can resolve the issue.

Pot paranoia is a thing with inexperienced users. Edibles have a different “high” and could be worth trying, but you will want to do it around an experienced user in case the paranoia hits again. (It probably won’t, I’ve never heard of anyone having a second paranoia attack, but just because it hasn’t happened to anyone I know of doesn’t mean it can’t happen to anyone.)

Hubs has been very productive today, he’s bottled 5 gallons of beer, re-racked three gallons of mead, pulled the fridge out and swept then put a water alarm by the wall with the water line. He’s pulling the stove out now, he thinks there’s about 97 kitty toys under there and poor George only has 10 or 12 toys to choose from.

I’ve read the Sunday paper and ordered a homemade coconut cream pie for Christmas.

The hospital is keeping our friend again tonight. Hubs is going to go see him in an hour, friend can only have one visitor a day. I’ll bet they spend a lot of time bitching about being forced to get their COVID shots, the poor babies.

That’s so interesting to me. I’d smoked weed a number of times before I got the panic attack. Several years ago, I dated a guy who owned a grow operation. He could talk for hours about how cannabinoids and terpenoids and a bunch of other stuff varied from strain to strain. He said a tiny amount of THC to activate the CBD wouldn’t be enough to induce a panic attack and custom-made a couple capsules for me to ease lupus joint pain. No panic attack! However, every time I tried to stand up, I’d start to black out. I was stuck on my sofa for hours. Apparently something tanked my BP. The BF said, 'Yeah, you can’t do weed."

I wonder why they call it paranoia when it’s really just plain fear. Maybe the alliteration?

Our Bozo had better hair.

ETA: doggio, loved the cartoon!

Enjoy your trip BooFae!

I hope that you get your ticker sorted out soon wet one. And I too, question driving during an episode.

unknown, under your stove sounds a bit like under my baker’s rack. When I sweep, at least four mini tennis balls usually roll out. :stuck_out_tongue:

Got all of the chores done and fixed up a pot of bastardized Italian wedding soup (I had some mushrooms and part of a bell pepper that needed used up before the trip and some macaroni that had been in the cupboard for too long, so they served as additions and a sub for the usual small pasta). It was yum!

See y’all tomorrow!

And just like that, youtubeTV and Disney have ironed out their differences… So we should have all our channels back shortly. Morons.

I re-watched the first 4 episodes of Shetland - this time with closed captioning. The Scottish accent is a little thick at times. And I crocheted some hotpads for the boat. Mostly an afternoon of chillage. I’ll do the sous vide tomorrow, because lazy.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated. I managed not to drop the Chalice or spill The Blood of Christ on anybody, so I call it a win. Had fried butterfly shrimpies (I did not know they had wings!) for N.O.L. and achieved nappage. EYP baked pee-kahn pies for all the Vestry members. There shall be warmed pee-kahn pie and 'niller ice cream in my near future!

Butters hope the aggravation has eased off by now.

WetOne I, too, question drivin’ durin’ an episode. We worry. Oy Vey!

OK pie and ice cream are callin’ out to me.

This is the third year we’ve tried to make chrusciki (a Polish Christmas cookie, also called angel wings) and finally got it right. These are light as air, sweet and crispy, with a hint of orange. Wonderful! This is what they look like, but not the recipe we used.

My mom makes these often - I used to help when I still lived at home, but I’ve never made them myself - go figure!

My grandmother used to make those.

Yes please!

I got interrupted yesterday when I was trying to post. Hugs as desired.

Same, my dear heart. Same.

ETA: oh, y’all are smoking? YAY.

Thanks to all who worried about me driving with a HR of 160. I started beta blockers today. Fingers crossed they will do me good til I see the cardio on the 28. So far the only side effect is drowsiness. Fortunately we can work from home the next two weeks so I might be napping on the couch! I did decide I am not going to ride Ariel until I see the doctor.

Evening all. most of the day was taken up by tackleball and I managed to work a bath and a trip to the Metro Cafe into the afternoon, so all is well.

wet one, hope the beta blockers do their thing and you feel better.

Everyone have a good evening (or a good morning to our Euros) and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

Always, LOL! Feel free to jump in. I’m thinking nellie’s friend was right and pot isn’t for her, but you probably know many things I don’t about the subject.

Another suggestion for back pain is a heated vest. Look for one with the heating coils over your pain points and not only does it keep you warm, its like a wearable heating pad. Mine takes a different charging cord than all of our other tech toys (naturally) and I lost it for a while. Replacement cords were crazy expensive so I searched our home and found mine. It now lives zipped up in a pocket unless I’m using it.

Our lazy hawk has started sitting on the top of the bird feeder pole and looking around expectantly. I think it’s pretty young and doesn’t really get sparrows and bird feeders yet. The weather here has been so crazy that I’ve noticed a lot more out-of-season young birds in the yard.

I feel slightly bad about luring sparrows in to be eaten by the hawk, but not bad enough to stop filling the feeders.
