Christmas Baking in the MMP

I may be mistaken as to “hundreds of dozens”, but it was certainly around the amount that you make. She was far from a professional and baked all of it in her cramped kitchen. The only saving grace was that she had a range with two ovens (upper and lower).

What?!?!?! doggio? You didn’t request a big brown delivery of your phone?

nellie, I think that they called the potato cakes latkes, although they weren’t very close to actual latkes. They weren’t bad for fast food though. They did them up on the griddle.

Any holiday baking that I do is for Thanksgiving. I did pumpkin pie and saffron buns this year. Next year, I’ll likely do a poppy seed roll (we do Polish food for Thanksgiving). Once upon a time, I did up fruit cakes (made about 6 weeks early and kept in a cool dark place with cheesecloth wrappings reapplied after soaking in bourbon every couple of days. That and candy. Buckeyes, bourbon balls, molded white chocolate angel lolly pops and cherry cordials. I do none of that anymore.

Irked, came home, et and am surfing with a small doggo resting on my left arm.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! As I said this mornin’. sloth has ensued pretty much all day here at da cave. Sup turned out to be poke roast, succotash, rice’n gravy and rolls. Not too shabby. The rest of the roast got shredded and sauced (sauce poured on it, the roast did not get drunk) and will become bbq sammiches one day this week, but not tomorrow cause cubed steak is already thawed out for tomorrow. Thus it was at da cave.

I occasionally bake a pumpkin pie, but otherwise I cook, not bake. I heaved. Then the belt went down, so I back to hauling bags up an incline like a medieval peasant. The current Smalls supervisor is beginning to damage my calm. She keeps telling us to “Bump it up”(ie. run the belt for a long time), except she does it: 1. When the belt is overloaded and needs to not run. 2. When someone else has turned the belt off. 3. When the belt has been running for 30min straight with no work on it. I know she’s getting pressure to do things, but we could get a parrot do do her job. Well, that and she’s a micro manager/Queen Bee, and out team works best as an Anarcho-Syndicalist Commune.

So you’re saying you have a nice rack?

Somebody actually registered a trademark on all the cool names when they said they were changing. and ((((hugs))))

Feel better, sari.

Givien the choice, I would have had #320 deliver it. But it was on the ground in front of my front door when I got home. So it was “delivered”. But I got a better phone coming from Da Jungle, so I’ll return the 1st one.
Yay Consumer Cellular!
Yay random unknown neighbor!
Boo Postmaster General.

Evening all. Despite not sleeping well this morning Ihave not achieved nappage today, somewhat to my surprise. Just finished off dinner from the Burger King, so that completes my Moanday eating out (in penance, I eat at home the rest of the week. Braunswieger Run is tomorrow morning up to the NE part of the county, picking up a few other things there. Kroger gas station was closed for reasons unknown, so probably will find a place to gas up tomorrrow.

doggio, amazing that the system works as well as it does, given the dearth of management skills.

Butters, people when given a chance usually trend nice, IMHO.

quietly, that’s a pretty good haul.

Sari, glad the drama at the dog park seems to be lessening. Maybe Barky just wasn’t acclimated to other dogs in a pack and was barking due to nerves…or maybe I haven’t got a clue what I’m talking about.

wet one, hope the heart settles down.

OK, internettin’ and watchin’ tackleball should occupy the rest of the night. Also got an Amazon box I need to open and see if the stuff I ordered is actually there.

All y’all take care.

I survived 20 years as a manager. Which is kinda scary, because I wasn’t the absolute best, but I did try to look after my employees.

I lost my entire post. Booooo

The short version is: Nellie I’m glad you got your umbrella back.

Tomorrow I get another back procedure. They’re trying a different procedure to plug up/heal the CSF leak I have going.

The rain is making a mess here, with flooding and other damage, BUT I’ll take it. I hope we start getting some water back into the reservoirs and water table.

Happy Monday everyone!

Evening all -

Since it will just be me (and the cats) this holiday I’ll probably roast a nice chicken, make stuffing, smashed potatoes, stewed tomatoes, some veggies and cornbread and pig out on the spread for a few days.

I have no issues, moral or otherwise, with leftovers.

Baking & sweets are not a good thing with my BMI at this age so we’ll just avoid that.

I will neither confirm or deny that there’s a lemon meringue pie in the fridge.

Cold, rainy, windy here, and the Princess for some reason started letting out some very odd howls. She calmed down after a minute or two, and does not appear ill. Her appetite is good, no visible difficulty with moving around (including jumping onto furniture), and she seems as alert as she usually is. She’s 11 now.

On the plus side, I’ve got materials for some good chicken soup, and some promising leftovers from a Panda Express order yesterday. Keebler Grasshopper cookies are a very acceptable surrogate for the Girl Scout Thin Mint, at a much more reasonable price and with year-round availability, and the Ever Given made it safely through the Suez Canal this time.

I’m back from Seattle and the monthly double-poke. I had to show them my epi-pen before they’d jab me. It’s a long day of traveling, waiting, traveling, but hopefully I’ll get some relief. Also, I love trains, as I may have mentioned two or three squillion times.

If I’m going to be with family, I make Cherry Nut Balls. No snerking, people! Oh, who am I kidding. Snerk away! They’re a family tradition: a very buttery shortbread cookie rolled in chopped walnuts or pecans with a candied cherry in the middle. They shouldn’t be as addictive as they are. You think, “I’ll only eat one” and wake from a daze a little while later to find you’ve eaten a dozen.

Butters, the kindness of the ops manager and the tribute to your beloved brought tears to my eyes. I hope your ankle stops hurting and that you get good news, house-wise.

This cracked me up.

Sari, hope the sinus infection clears up pronto. They’re miserable things.

What’s the rationale behind that? Is it to discourage pet owners or something?

What time do you want us lined up for delivery?

My mom used to make these all the time. Let me know if you want the recipe. :smiling_imp:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 42 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy (mostly moony?), with a predicted high of 71 and N.O.S. for the day. I have some errands and stuff to deal with so I shall betake myself out of da cave this mornin’ and do so. I’d rather sloth all day, but sometimes one must adult, dagnabbit! Sup shall be cubed steak 'n gravy, field peas with snaps, squishes, smashed N.O.T. and cornbread. Some down home comfort type food is needed.

Sunny hope the procedure goes well today.

Sari hope the sinuses feel better and glad to know the dawg park is less barky/dramatic.

WetOne hope you’re feelin’ better.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack and bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the public attire. Don’t know what’s worse, the need for appropriate dress or bein’ amongst the peasantry.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! It’s grey, dreary and damp over here, not a particularly pleasant day at all. I ventured outside earlier to haul the recycling bin off the pavement and back to its allotted space on the drive, thus I know it was drizzly and ick out there.

Much like Swampy, I have to make myself presentable and go out to do necessary errands. This is because I didn’t do them yesterday after getting sidetracked with other domestic chores. Now I have to go to the post orifice to send cards to folks, and I need to go into town to do some bits of shopping so that I can wrap stuff up and take it where it needs to go. Tonight is also grocery shopping so I have that joy to look forward to.

Last night’s musical shenanigans provided much entertainment. Poor Myles Kennedy has a sinus problem which meant he couldn’t do some of the songs he’d planned to sing as it seriously affects his middle register. So the entire set list got thrown out and he did a bunch of other songs. Not that we were bothered, everything he does is a joy to listen to so his audience went home happy.

First time we’ve really had to use covid passes etc to get into a venue, which also went smoothly for us (I did a lateral flow test in the morning and had evidence of the negative result, and 'im indoors had his official downloaded covid pass thing) but the couple behind us were arguing with the security man about how ridiculous it was and they shouldn’t have to prove anything at all. Once inside, we were further entertained by the bloke who hadn’t read the info sent to all ticketholders that the venue was contactless payments only, he decided to argue with three of the bar staff and a couple of security folks that they could not refuse to take cash at the bar because it was legal tender. He got very loud and agitated, they wouldn’t back down, he gave up in the end. We heard him several times afterwards complaining to anyone who’d listen about his cash being legal tender that they had no right to refuse. Maybe he’ll read things a bit more closely next time.

Oh well, I suppose I’d better drink my tea and get out of the house before I find more excuses not to leave the premises!

I support this message. I found out last week that the plan I had with them was replaced (at the same price) with a better one. Instead of 250 minutes of talk/ 500 M data/ unlimited texts, I now have unlimited talk and text plus 1G data. The talk portion was never an issue, altho I used to cringe when stuck on hold for long stretches. And the data was never an issue except when we were on the road, and I had to monitor my usage when away from WiFi. Now, no sweat! Woohoo!! All that with tax for under $25/month - not bad, I say.

Same with me - leftovers = quick, easy meal. Spousal unit, on the other hand, is less amenable. So I have to do stuff to the leftovers. I don’t mind being creative, but sometimes I just want to reheat and be done with it. Ah well…

I suspect it’s because they want a certain “look” for the neighborhood - open green space. The lots are small - I bet less than 1/4 acre - so if everyone fenced, it’d be a whole lot of boxes. I don’t know. Personally I like my 3 acres and no HOA telling me what I can or can’t do with my property.

OK, fine, quit twisting my arm… Would you message it to me, please? Or post it here so everyone can get hooked…

Today, we head north. Daughter is picking me up between 8-9 - she didn’t want to have to transfer the baby from her car to mine, so she’s driving. Which is good - FCD’s car is in for an oil change so he’ll need mine to go to the gym. I don’t know how long we’ll be at Mom’s, but I hope we come home before rush hour.

And if timing works out, I’ll get dropped off at the shop to pick up FCD’s car so he and I don’t have to go out to fetch it. Fingers crossed!! And that’s the big excitement of the day.

Happy Tuesday!!

Good morning everyone.

It’s a cool, clear, and frosty 34 degrees outside The expected high is 41 and there is rain in today’s forecast.

I am waiting on some packages from Amazon and one from Fed Ex. I ordered this item from the WSU Bookie Store in Eastern WA on 3 December. The shipping information didn’t even get sent to Fed Ex until the 7th. The fact that this package has been bouncing around the local vicinity for FOUR DAYS and still hasn’t been delivered is just dumb. I don’t like Fed Ex they always screw up. Below is my tracking info: For context, I live next to Tacoma. The fact the package then bounced up north to Kent/Maple Valley is even more ridiculous and now it’s back in Tacoma and supposedly on a truck for delivery.

I ordered the prime rib roast yesterday and will pick it up on the 23rd. I wanted to pick it up on the 24th because it takes up a lot of real estate in the fridge, but the butcher shop encouraged me to pick it up sooner. I think the gal I was talking to really wanted me to pick it even sooner than the 23rd, but I am not leaving a roast in my fridge longer than a couple of days.

Work was ridiculously busy; it always is. However, after today, I only have two more wake-ups for work this week. I’m still toying with the idea of taking Monday off, but I need to see how a Return to Work planning meeting goes first. I was hoping to be able to make that decision yesterday, but they moved the meeting to Thursday.

I hope you, your daughter and Tobias have a good trip today, FCM.

Your ops manager sounds like quite a gem, Butters. I’m glad he was there to make things a little easier for you. I hope your ankle feels better too.

How about that. It’s time for another cup of coffee.

I agree wholeheartedly about FedEx. The hub in Upper Marlboro, which services our area, sucketh mightily. Every delivery issue I’ve had here has been with them. No probs with UPS or USPS. But you’re not always given the option.

I’m showered, dressed, and ready to go. My daughter texted that she was feeding Toby, then she’d be on her way. So just wasting time till she arrives. And what better place to waste it?

Afternoon all.

You know, I really don’t miss the securitatin’ job…

The sun’s currently peeking out round a cloud here, but it’s not likely to last. I’m mainly writing up assignments this week, but I have a last few Christmas presents to buy, so I plan to head into the horrid nearby town (I visited the nice one last time, but the nasty one does have some useful shops). I still have to get something for a cousin I barely ever see- he’s been on the ‘box of chocs’ standard for years, but got a diabetes diagnosis this year, so that’s out. He also has issues with (among a host of other things) alcohol, so that’s out… Is there a third generic option?

I’m also somewhat peeved with a local delivery company: I ordered an item and yesterday got emailed saying it’s ready for collection, from a nearby shop (pick up is easier, and they’ve not previously managed to screw that up). It’s not there. Tracking says it is. I’ve now had 2 emails saying I need to pick it up, and it’s not there… They don’t appear to have any actual complaint lines that are manned by an actual human, all I seem to be able to get is repeats of the same lie. If it doesn’t arrive there today, I start kicking up properly.

Adult coloring book and colored pencils? < shrug > Or a humorous mug? Socks? I’m a terrible gift giver…

Morning all. Will be heading out shortly after this message, gas up car, shopping, banking and some more shopping are planned, which should take the balance of the morning. Heading for 65F today without any rain to be seen, so nice day. Also need to start the dishwasher before I head out, so it’ll be done by the time I get home.

So far my deliveries have been pretty much on-time; got a couple coming from Wal-Mart, due the 17th so we’ll see if they make it (not Xmas gifts, for personal use). Hope everybody gets their stuff.

boo fae, you get looked at oddly if you use cash anymore; surprised the guy was so stubborn about it.

nellie, I may be in the Seattle area in May; maybe meetup?

Sunny, hope the back procedure does some good.

doggio, expect you did better as a manager than you think; but don’t blame you a bit for avoiding it now (spent 30 years of my US Govt. career avoiding middle management).

OK, the rush to work should be clear, so off I go. All y’all have a good day now.

Needs cookie dough.
