Christmas Eve 2024

Christmas Eve.

All the rushing around is done.

Watching / listening to Carols from King’s Cambridge.

« Once in Royal David’s City … »

Merry Christmas and Joyeux Noël!

Watching The Bishop’s Wife, from 1947. It’s stars Loretta Young, Cary Grant, and David Niven. It’s on TCM right now. One of my favourite Christmas movies.

Caga tio!

Stranger

I am watching a rerun of the original Night Court.

I am trying to decide whether to go into Chinatown for authentic Chinese food or to the Ruby Buffet (I went there for Thanksgiving) for an Americanized Chinese all you can eat experience.

Piper Cat 1 is trying to climb the Christmas tree, while Piper Cat 2 lazily watches from the cat tree.

Let’s see.
Too many people.
Too much noise.
Too many questions.
Too much mess.
Too many fussing kids.
Two too many Siamese cats with hair up their asses.

But other than that I’m fine.

Ho ho ho and all!

We went to Daughter’s for breakfast, then gave the grandspawn their gifts, and came home so we could attend to some things and they could go see their other grandmother.

I prepped the deviled egg fillings and I’ll finish assembling them tomorrow at my brother’s house where the rest of my family is gathering. But the rest of today was mostly lazy. Perfect way to pass a cold, drizzling day.

Tradition is to watch an Angel, second class, earn his wings helping Mr. Bailey realize he has a WONDERFUL life along with the bad elves.

Fuck you, Amazon for your abridged version that cuts out the most important part. Since we finished that early now watching a CHRISTMAS MOVIE in Nakatomi Plaza

Let me help you out a little, @Beckdawrek :

Too many people,
Too much noise,
Too many questions,
From girls and boys.

Too much mess,
From all of these.
Also from two cats,
Who are Siamese.

One Year Anniversary of Walking with a Limp.

Thank you for the idea! Now that The Bishop’s Wife is over, the best I can find is “Wheel of Fortune.” Time to dig my Die Hard DVD’s out.

Thanks again for the idea!

Christmas Carol is on in a bit on TCM.

After years of wondering what Trader Joe’s “Vegan Breaded Turkey-less Stuffed Roast” tasted like, I tried it for dinner tonight. Not awful, not bad, but I think I’ll stick with real turkey going forward. The meal is elevated somewhat by a dram or two of Macallan Sherry Oak 12 and a slice of Beckmann’s Berry Bomb Pie.

On the tube tonight is Landsman. Overall it’s okay, but I’ll watch just about anything that has Billy Bob Thornton.

Took me awhile because of other stuff, but tonight I finally got my outdoor decorations up:

  • inflatable Santa
  • inflatable hielan’ coo (with Santa cap)
  • inflatable kitty (with Santa cap)
  • Christmas spider (with Santa cap).

I only put my tree up yesterday. It’s roughly as old as I am, been in the family for decades.

I’m enjoying the soft glow of the lights & counting down to midnight, which is when I told myself I’ll open one of my Secret Santa gifts.

Went to a get-together at the home of my friend’s sister earlier, got properly good & lit, and was unexpectedly given a gift (fingerless mittens, very helpful for my job) and a big plate of food, finished off with 2 kinds of pie.

Midnight, time for prezzie!!!

Relaxing at home watched Jim Carey as The Grinch and then I watched the original Grinch cartoon.

About time for bed.

Busy day tomorrow traveling to visit relatives.

Back from 4ish hours with the extended in-law clan. Food I mostly didn’t eat - booze I didn’t get to drink because the wife did, and therefore I’m driving. Too HOT (they keep the house at 76! and that’s before the oven and 20ish people in a large single family home) so I’m posting with a large glass of cold water before I get to bed and spend tomorrow with just my mother and father in law plus wife.

Waiting for Xmas to be over so I can move on to New Years, which we keep with just us and friends from out of town. From 12/28 - 1/3 there’s going to be a fuckton of Rifftrax/MST3k projected on the wall, eating too much, drinking FAAAAR too much, and goofing off of the highest order!

ERROR! ERROR!

It’s really a shame, because my wife’s cousin’s husband is a really good cook and skilled mixologist. This year there was a choice of apple cider mixed with Laird’s applejack and Axe and Oak bourbon with a touch of star anise and clove, or a dessert martini made with homemade chocolate liqueur, peppermint liqueur, half and half, served in a martini glass rimmed with dark chocolate. And a decent selection of beer and wine as well.

I had a sip of the first option, and enjoyed it. But there are plenty of bad and drunk drivers out there right now, and I didn’t want to add to it.
