Although I went out last night, it seems most people these days prefer to stay in for New Year’s Eve. If you did so what did you watch?
A classic, The Apartment on TCM. Vintage Jack Lemmon, Fred MacMurray, Shirley MacClaine.
I was playing Civ III, and wiping out the Mayans, who STARTED it. And then the leader groveled and begged for mercy. HA! And the Romans are gonna be next, if they don’t stop demanding “homage”.
Bloodthirsty? Me? It’s always the other guys who actually declare war…
Nothing. I have a project due last week and I worked until 9:30, read until 10:00 and went to sleep.
Sat around the kitchen table with family and the couple from next door, settled Catan, and made several attempts on the life of Dr Lucky.
I fell asleep waiting for The Apartment to come on (I can hardly believe it’s been a year since I saw it last), but I woke up in time to watch most of the classic Ocean’s Eleven. I spent the next couple of hours futzing around the kitchen with Made for Each Other (Jimmy Stewart, Carole Lombard, 1939) on in the background. How that guy flew from Utah to New York in an open biplane, in the middle of a winter storm and in time to save the kid’s life, is beyond me…
I turned on the ball at 11:59 and turned it off at 12:01.
Slept until 21:30. Had dinner with family and in-laws (an eccletic mix of KFC and Chinese food).
Champagne and the traditional 12 grapes at midnight and then fireworks.
The Twilight Zone marathon on SyFy, with a quick switch out to our local countdown/fireworks from 23:55-00:10.
I watched The Rocking Eve broadcast, just in case they had zombie Dick Clark hosting.
Watched an episode of Mad Men, played Skyrim for a while, in bed by midnight. All part of my rock & roll lifestyle.
Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin on CNN. Given Kathy’s post-midnight behavior, it’s possible that this was their last year.
We finished our 3 month rewatch of the West Wing with the last 4 episodes of season 7 last night. Normally we’re out NYE but we caught the cottage crud over Christmas from either my son’s girlfriend or my niece and it was a much better plan to stay snug in bed watching TV.
Damn kids.
I got home from work around 11:55. At midnight I was surfing the Dope and chowing down on In And Out.
Earlier in the evening I had my laptop at work and watched The Thrill of it All! and Magical Mystery Tour on DVD and then switched to youtube to see The Dancing Outlaw and Jesco White Hellbilly.
Exactly this. At midnight I wished my wife a Happy New Year and gave her a kiss.
Both of us were also reading books at the time.
ABC until 10 then CNN until 1.
I had a nice quiet New Year’s Eve with Amanda Root and Ciarán Hinds.
Couldn’t complete your poll. It wasn’t multiple choice.
I was playing Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and wondering why the gnolls were making fireworks noises.
I was sick and had to stay in, so I watched MTV’s New Year’s Eve show because Ke$ha performed live almost immediately after the ball dropped. If I had been sick AND missed the show, it would have been the worst New Year’s Eve ever.
