Christmas Eve 2024

Went to my younger son’s house. He’s a chef so it’s the first time in years I didn’t cook. I ate more than I usually do. I got to see my beautiful new grand baby for the second time. He lives an hour and a half away, and with Hubster’s Parkinson’s l have to do all the driving. Between the caregiving and the driving it’s stressful.

We came home and watched Christmas Vacation. We watched Elf and Deck the Halls the day before Christmas Eve.

I spent today tasting several cookies to make sure they weren’t poisoned, made Chex mix, then went delivering cookies and gingerbread to my friends (and one delivered some home made tamales to us. YUM!). After I got home, I started a brisket on the smoker and we had my traditional Christmas Eve dinner of Chicken McNuggets. My wife is a devout Schulzist, so we watched her religious programming and opened our gifts to each other.

Now I’m babysitting the brisket and in about an hour I will stick in the oven so it can stay warm and finish itself around the time that my brother and his girlfriend will arrive. Since it’s midnight, there’s a few super-geniuses making with the celebratory gunfire. Oh, the joys of living in south Dallas.

Thank you @Spoons and Beck, this was much enjoyed~like an extra special trinket in my :christmas_tree: Christmas :socks:. I read it just as the clock slipped from 11:59pm Christmas Eve to 12am Christmas morning and a Siamese snoozed in my lap.

My nephew sang in a Christmas concert in combo with St Olaf College’s Christmas broadcast. We watched that and then both nephews were whipped up so we played some pickleball with a LED setup; so exhausting yet a good memory for years to come.

My parents keep theirs at 79. I think they’re lizards.

That sounds lovely.

Oh, jeebus, be still, my heart.

This was well done, thanks.

Just finished last minute vacuuming while the Siamese totally ignored the machine roaring around her cat bed. Daughter coming over later for prezzies and roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The traditional Holidayfest of four full days of games with our games group coming up for the weekend.

I had a pleasant Christmas Eve with one of my cousins.

I will be doing lunch at a local Japanese restaurant today with a coworker. She is recently divorced and her son went with his father.

This is a new one for me! But looking forward to it.

This morning, we’re sleeping in and relaxing. Tonight we’ll go to my brother’s. I’m bringing my famous charcuterie.

Last night we went to the in-laws’ for a family Christmas party.

Earlier this week we watched Clarence, Angel Second Class get his wings.

And we also watched NYPD Detective John McClane save the innocent people being held hostage in Nakatomi Tower.

Merry Christmas, and an Oohrah New Year, fellow Dopers!

LOL I love the OOhrah New Year.

I was in the Navy and married a marine so I get this.

Bless your heart!

Jerry Christmas everyone!

@Spoons is a marvel. Ain’t he?

:santa:

Hmm

There was a sign across the street for a Hanukkah festival. It gave an address. But I have no knowledge of this neighborhood. My beloved informed that Google Maps said public transit would be 90 minutes each way. I just double checked on my iPhone. According to that, all I have to do is exit my apartment building and walk about three blocks and I’ll be there.

Who do I believe?

WAG: Public transit probably isn’t running many stops today, so it’s faster to just walk there than to stand around waiting for the infrequent bus.

Oh, without giving away my address, it sounded like it should be in walking distance. For one thing, why put up a sign if it is so far away?

I will be taking public transportation today though. I will be going to the Ruby Buffet. It is a standard Americanized Chinese all you can eat experience. Unfortunately, it is all the way in South Philly. The bus ride there will take a little over 30 minutes.

Christmas afternoon. Just threw another log on the fire. Sipping a glass of dry sack and a mug of tea, a cozy murder novel, with Frank singing, to be followed by Nat . :fire:

A coffee grounds log, made of compressed coffee grounds. Burns for three hours.

Interesting what they turn into fire logs these days.

The new Wallace and Gromit - recorded earlier, about to be watched right now.

j

Doctor Who marathon on BBC.

Lots of ads. But I dont mind too much.

I just got back from an all you can eat Chinese buffet. It was extremely crowded. Most of the patrons seemed to be Christian.

Eating Chinese food on Christmas is a Jewish tradition! This is cultural appropriation and I won’t stand for it!

Worked until almost midnight on Christmas Eve, went to sister-in-law’s for Christmas Day, house is pretty much destroyed by fire while we were gone, watching “The Christmas Carol” narrated by Vincent Price (very rare!), seeing insurance adjuster in the next couple of days.
