Christmas-y wedding flowers

I’m getting married in less than a month (yikes!) and I haven’t even talked to a florist yet. It’s a very very small wedding, so I only really need flowers for me (the bride) and maybe a boutiniere (sp?) for the groom.

My gown is off-white in a vintage style with a high neck and long lacy sleeves. I want something elegant and somewhat Christmas-y, probably in a reddish hue. I do not want carnations. Suggestions? I’d love to see pictures if anyone can find some. Most of the bouquet pictures that I’ve found on various wedding sites are non-holiday, and most of the Christmas flowers I can find are arrangements for the table, not to be carried.

Help! I’m running out of time and have no ideas!

Why not just red roses? You could have the florist use evergreen, holly, or some other Christmas-type greenery for the filler.

Red roses with holly as an accent? It’s wintery/Christmasy, but it’s simple and it’s something that any florist should be able to do in the winter.

Poinsettas? I’ve seen some potted ones with white carnations (you could use white roses) and they’re very pretty.

Wouldn’t work well as cut flowers, though – the stems ooze a milky sap when you cut them.

Another vote for roses and holly.

Small poinsettias can certainly be used, but the ends need to be burned with a candle flame, and they need those water holders to stay fresh.

Here’s a gorgeous winter bridal bouquet idea, with directions on how to make it.

I don’t have a posted photo, but when I got married I carried a bouquet of dark red roses with greenery. It wasn’t Christmas, but as I was wearing a white dress and DH was wearing a white uniform, I wanted to put a little color in there. It looked great!

Another vote for red roses and holly. My favorite roses are black magic roses - dark, deep red (I carried them when I got married 2 years ago) and they look gorgeous against a white/ivory dress.

That is a great-looking bouquet…I love having the holly berries mixed in.

Here’s a good photo using those Black Magic roses:

Just put something green in place of the white flowers there.

Hey, this is fun:

Those Black Magic roses are beautiful! Great idea. Thanks.

Great pictures, romansperson. How did you find them all? I’ve been having a terrible time when I’ve searched for these things.

Ooh, those are gorgeous! They look like velvet!

Thanks – I stand corrected.
