Honestly, I think we should ban less. Some people can be valuable contributors if you can get them to shut up about one particular thing. Whether or not dale is one of them… I guess we’ll find out.
I can’t say whether we ban too much or not enough, but if that one particular thing is more than half the human population, I’m not seeing much hope.
You mean Chronos’s note should have been marked as under review, not dalej42’s original post (which Chronos had already written a note upholding the validity of)?
~Max
Did I remember/interpret the chronology/chain of causality wrong?
I meant more narrowly “women in sports”, since it’s my understanding that’s the target of the ban. If the idea of women participating in society in any way is a problem, then, yeah… He’s going to have trouble.
While we’re at it, can we revoke the warning for @Helena330? The snarky comment that she wanted the warning was not called for. A mod note for breaking the rule is more in line with other incidents in the Board’s past - particularly given Dale’s track record. Pun deliberate.
ETA: I see that revoking Helena’s warning is already being discussed. I don’t care that she reported her own post. I don’t see how that automatically means she should get the warning Again, a mod note seems the appropriate response to me.
I agree that she may leave the Board. No matter how hard we push on this misogyny issue, it always feels like we’re right back where we started.
But she is in danger of leaving the board. Hasn’t been back since her post, 28 hours now.
I think the order of events,
- dalej42’s post. Sat. 8/7 11:24am
- people report post, pushback against post
- Chronos’s note saying dalej42’s post is valid Sun. 8/8 8:35am
- pushback from mods (in mod loop) and posters on Chronos’s note, including this ATMB topic
- Chronos’s note overruled and dalej42 topic-banned from discussing female atheletes Mon. 8/9 11:42am
I think a note saying something is under review makes most sense between 3. and 5.

She has in fact…
So I guess she’s not in danger of leaving with all things considered. (I hope not.)
That’s helpful to know, but I do think it’s still categorically different than saying she was asking for it. That to me implies she was gleefully provoking it vs resigned to getting it.
But I’ll let it drop.
That puts a different spin on it. Thank you
Not unless she’s saying that she doesn’t regret leaving.
She’s not, she’s saying she doesn’t regret drawing the warning. It’s pretty clear in the thread.

If she comes back, then I’d say you’re right. If not, I’d say it’s ambiguous.
Has anyone tried asking @Helena330 ?
~Max
She’s posted about it elsewhere in the last couple of hours.
It was very brief and completely lacks detail, but please see the 2nd post of this thread.

Link, either of you? I don’t see one.
Elsewhere seems to be code for “on another message board.”

There’s a selfish reason for me. I like reading Helena’s contributions to the board, and I know that an ill-aimed warning can leave a bad taste in one’s mouth. If she doesn’t give a shit about the warning, I don’t really, either. But I’d hate for this to be something that made a good poster not feel like posting here as much.
If it were an unambiguous situation, it’d be different; but this is a situation where slack can be, and often is, cut.
I’ve already thanked you privately for your support, but thank you again, and thank you to everyone else that’s posted in support of me and much more importantly, against misogyny. To clear things up, I asked for that warning. I reported my own post and said I was ready for it. Chronos could not risk his modly omnipotence in ignoring that insubordination, so I get it. But for whatever reason, he came down on me harder than necessary in my first post. If he hadn’t, I wouldn’t have posted the one for which I was warned. I was left thinking, “WTF? My post pointing out misogyny is more offensive than misogyny itself?!” That led to the second post. I’ve never disrespected Chronos, I’ve even defended him a few times, so his response to my first post felt like I’d been slapped.
My dearest @What_Exit , I thank you and the other mods for maintaining my confidentiality regarding that PM. I didn’t want to post anything here in ATMB because I was disgusted with the whole thing, and after Chronos response to my original post, I was quite ready to walk away from the board completely.
I haven’t posted here much lately. I’m not an OG, but I’ve been here a while. Misogyny is a hot-button topic for me. I really appreciate that the mods here are working hard to clear it up (with the exceptions of Chronos and Hari - you both come off as dicks). But accepting the casual, repeated turds-in-the-punchbowl misogyny like dale’s still makes this an uncomfortable place, and I don’t want to share even virtual space with people like that. I’m glad he got a topic ban. But a straight-up banning would’ve been a lot more effective in sending the message that misogyny isn’t tolerated here.
I don’t care about the warning, but I care about this issue, and obviously, I must still care about this board and a lot of the people on it.
