@Helena330: thank you for your post. I wish you’d stick around; though of course that’s up to you.

Not for nothing, but I read a tweet today about the things women do as a matter of course that men never have to think about. Like parking under streetlights and checking the backseat before getting in the car. It was a long list.
Yes, there’s a rule against challenging a mod note. But if you want people to follow the rule, step one is not to say or do anything atrocious. The ruling in favor of dale’s post was atrocious.
It was the latter. Like I said, I was really upset, and I was done with this board. But there wasn’t any way I was going to slink off without a whimper.
That’s what I meant and I apologize for not being more clear. It’s moot now since @Helena330 posted here.
This whole thing was an unmitigated and self-inflicted clusterfuck and board staff need to think really carefully about how it all played out. And @Helena330 deserves an unqualified apology.
I was addressing what Max_S was talking about. Nothing else. Literally this thread, post #2.
Helena330, I hope you do stay. We are trying to clean up the board but I’m well aware it is slower than many would like.
I will. I know you’re all working hard. This last group of mods that was added is mostly phenomenal.
Ah, sorry. I didn’t read carefully and missed who you were replying to, and took it as an amplification of the post immediately above yours.
I’m going to tag @The_Librarian as I think the suggestion was to put a banner directly on Chronos’s post, so people like Helena330 would not feel compelled to pushback in-thread.

Interesting idea but not quite what was going on anyway.
It was less about the modnote and more about a push from more than 1 mod, including Chronos to review Dale’s body of work.
Taking in isolation, I honestly don’t think most of the mods would have modded Dale’s post. But we quickly brought up that this was just the latest in a series of clearly misogynistic posts. That got everything going, but generally we trying to go for a consensus ruling on things like this and at least 7 votes in favor out of 11 mods. This can be a slow process on a Tuesday, a lot slower on the weekend.
WTF? Maybe my bros are more enlightened. We do not make “homo” jokes, and I would shoot anyone down who made one in my presence.
For real.
What_Exit certainly initially did, since he supported it until shown the receipts. So no, I think this is clearly not just miscommunicating.
I’ve highlighted the important bit to me - why she reacted as she did.
No-one is in doubt that she knew what she was doing. That doesn’t mean magnanimity wasn’t warranted, especially after it was decided that dale later did deserve sanction. That’s restorative justice, really.
Well, I admit my sense of humor isn’t exactly polite. Sorry if that bit offended anyone.

Nailed it. But whatever, it’s like talking to a wall and pounding one’s head against it at the same time when it comes to this topic. At least with the wall you have an unending ache to show for your efforts. Here it’s just a lot of excuses and bullshit.
And that’s problematic. It was worth modding (and hard), just by itself. That most of the mods don’t see that is why the modding around misogyny has not really lived up to the high-minded promises that were made. Things have improved, certainly, but only by millimetres.
Take a close look at what happened to the women who reacted strongly here.
Long before anything happened to the offender. And without the slightest discussion.
Repeatedly told they need to speak up, show us the misogyny. When women react though, it’s a different thing.
You can’t have it both ways.
How can you see Chronos response to Helena, and not see a man, uncomfortable with being challenged, finding a women to point a finger at? Beyond repugnant.
And no one dissented? Thanks for the heads up!
Do you think we should have an explicit rule against sexism in the game room?
I mean, sexism is rampant among fans of sports and other kinds of games. So it isn’t really intuitive that a sexist view is jerkish. On the other hand I don’t see much value added by allowing overt sexism in that particular category.

I don’t belch in public being doing so would be impolite.
I don’t tell “homo jokes” with my “bros” because I’m not homophobic and joking about it lends support to those who are. Politeness has nothing to do with it.
As a heads up: that’s not a really good apology style.
