Well, I’ve finally caught up with my Chuck watching. Thanks to tr0psn4j for running the discussion thread in my absence.
I thought this episode had a pretty good blend of comedy and action as well as advancing the various plot threads. Or maybe my mind was just blown by undercover Sarah in her catsuit.
Timothy Dalton has got to be the best Big Bad the series has seen so far. He’s so affably evil, but you can really believe that he could truly turn Sarah to the dark side. I’ll be more than a little sad when the inevitable denouement arrives.
And I enjoyed Sarah as a sexy catsuited brunette; heck, I enjoy Sarah any which way I can get her!
It was good seeing Awesome and Ellie, but the “baby’s name” subplot was truly cringe-worthy – the characters deserve better material!
This is an incredibly fun show, though, and I am really hoping that we will see another season. Does any one know how the ratings are stacking up for this season?
I think the ratings have been generally pretty much the same as last season. I read over at ChuckTV.net that last week’s episode (the first one after several weeks on hiatus) scored a season high of 2.1 in the 18-49 demographic. Not a huge number, but it’s a good sign. Also, NBC hasn’t had great luck with their new shows this season. *Undercovers *is apparently cancelled, and *Chase *isn’t doing well. The Cape–which I watch–is getting lower ratings than Chuck. I haven’t heard how *Harry’s Law *is doing, but I predict it will crash and burn. So right now things are actually looking pretty good for Chuck.
I think what kept that from grating on me too much is the fact that, ultimately, it was still his pick. It could have very easily been an I’m-going-to-trick-him-into-what-I-want scenario lifted from one of those innumerable sitcoms where the wife is always smarter than the husband. But she just wanted him to make a choice, and when he did, she backed him on it. One can only hope they were able to resolve the choice of middle name with less drama.
Agreed on the prison scene. I was particularly tickled when the second guy challenged him. “What, now? Can’t I be the big dog for a minute?”
I’ve taken to fast-forwarding through the BuyMore B-plots, which has greatly enhanced my enjoyment of the show. There was none of that this episode, so the suck was transferred over to Ellie and Awesome. I really hope they don’t continue to get the weekly Chuck allowance of suck, because I really like those characters.
