I’m starting this thread early to give all the Chuck fans a heads up that Chuck will be returning on Feb 2 and he’ll be in GLORIOUS 3-D!!!. Check out the preview then pick up your free 3-D glasses. These are the same 3D glasses that they’re giving away for the SuperBowl, so hang on to them, if you already have them, to see Yvonne Strahovski (or Adam Baldwin, as the case may be) right in your living room.
Damn! I went grocery shopping today and I forget to see if the store had any of the 3-D glasses.
Weekend bump. Last chance to get your 3D glasses.
Isn’t it always in three dimensions?
Personally, I think a two-dimensional version would be more interesting, especially if he turns sideways.
Well, the 3D wasn’t really all that. It was effective, but the process led to a blue tinge to the highlights; rather annoying in well-lighted scenes. Except for the fanservice. All the fanservice should be in 3D.
The episode itself was pretty solid, however. Dominic Monaghan was pretty funny as the stereotypically over-drugged and over-sexed rock star. I like how Chuck imitated his (also stereotypical) accent. If only he’d found an excuse to say, “This one goes to eleven!”
I didn’t watch the show in 3D and was annoyed by the color of it because of it. I’ve always hated the 3D gimmick.
That aside, another solid show, and I’m really pleased they didn’t draw out the issue of Sarah killing the Fulcrum agent.
I’m glad they didn’t hold out on the Fulcrum agent thing. It wasn’t a big enough issue to hold out over two people who (apparently) trust each other immensely. Hell, they’ve handled the much more awkward and painful situation of being deeply in love with one another in a reasonably transparent way, only lying to one another when they’re lying to themselves as well. I think the handling of the Fulcrum agent is cut from the same cloth as the rest of the series’ style.
ETA: Re-read the above post and realized it agreed with mine. Left mine here because it elaborated a little further.
The problem with this type of 3-D is that the glasses make everything look very dark, which made it hard to tell what was going on a lot of the time. It was kind of like watching with sunglasses on. The effects were fine, especially the animated stuff when Chuck got an intercept flash. But ultimately, it was just a silly gimmick.
Otherwise, I enjoyed the episode, both the Dominic Monaghan stuff and the BuyMore subplot.
I had a friend over last night, so last night’s Chuck is still on my DVR waiting to be watched. Unfortunately, I never made it to the store to pick up a pair of the glasses.
What I’m wondering about is what they’re going to do when the second season DVD set comes out. Will they be including a pair of the glasses with the DVDs, or having a 2D version of the show?
I didn’t have the glasses and I found the 3D occasionally distracting with odd colored outlines and such. I do agree it was a good episode though the Buy More subplot felt off this time.
LurkMeister, there is apparently a 2D version of the show available already as they mentioned you could watch the show again on line in 2D or 3D.
Who knew Jerome Bettis had such dramatic range?
I loved the “Chuck on the elevator” gag. Very funny stuff.
I think the problem with the Buy More subplot was that it started out very tightly integrated with the main plot, with Tyler Martin visiting the store and the search for the Golden Ticket, but quickly went its own way. None of the Nerd Herd guys even showed up at the concert. Jerome Bettis was pretty funny, though.
Anyone else pickup on the IG-88 reference? Good stuff. I love this show.
I’m glad I knew it was in 3D. Otherwise, I’d have been messing with my TV’s controls and bitching a lot. Even knowing, I didn’t like it. Besides the picture quality, they of course neglected the usual quality of the episode to make lots of 3D SCENORAMAS!!
Please let this be a one-time gimmick, or they need to send 3D glasses to everyone.
Bitching aside, I did like it, and will second that I’m glad they dealt with the Fulcrum hurt feelings issue.
I meant to add, I think it’s charming how oblivious Chuck’s sister and BIL are. At the end Chuck, Sarah and Casey are obviously off to be up to something that probably isn’t grabbing a quick burger. Not that they saw them this time, but c’mon. Those three are always doing something suspicious.
The 3D stuff is getting pretty effective. The technology is starting to improve, but I wish they could find a way to eliminate the bluish glint that everything has while wearing the glasses. It really fatigues the eyes.
The episode was decent, but I definitely felt like the 3D distracted me from it. I found myself deciding if the 3D was working instead of listening to the show.
I could only watch with the glasses on for a couple of minutes, it was very straining to the eyes. Enjoyed the episode anyway!
Not I. Please explain.
The grenade that was in the Buy More was an IG-88 Thermite Charge.
IG-88 is a bounty hunter droid in The Empire Strikes Back. He can be seen in the background of the scene when Darth Vader is talking to the other bounty hunters.
I love how the writers take nerd pop culture references and put them in the show. The Christmas epispde had Big Mike’s cousin, Sgt. Al Powell of the LA police department… and Die Hard and Die Hard 2.
