Heads up, Chuck fans, our favorite spy returns tonight. When we last saw Chuck, he had chased after Sarah and Shaw in Paris. After finally disposing of Shaw, he and Sarah found themselves alone in a hotel room overlooking (what else?) the Eiffel Tower, where they proceeded to pull a Moonraker on General Beckman. Something tells me that the General isn’t going to be pleased about that:
While in Europe, Chuck and Sarah realize they are traveling with Spanish spies; Beckman orders Casey and Morgan to track down the missing couple.
Casey’s back, and now that Chuck has begun to grow out of being the clueless newbie of the team, they add Morgan. I wonder what will happen to Ellie and Awesome’s Africa plans?
I’m still not entirely sold on Morgan as a part of the team, but I must say I loved it that he ended up proving quite valuable to the mission – not once, but twice!
I thought it was a nice little twist that he’s actually clever and resourceful, instead of just being a bumbling fool along for the ride, as most of us expected.
I don’t mind him being portrayed as a bit of a bumbling fool, but I think they should not overdo that aspect, and also emphasize that he can be an asset at times. I think that this episode brought out both sides of Morgan very well.
The whole ep was a big kiss on the mouth to the fans. Chuck and Sarah were awesome. Morgan and Casey were awesome. Jeff and Lester were awesome. Even the bad Basque guy was awesome.
Actually, the previous week’s episode was originally going to be this season’s final episode. After initially cancelling the show last year, there was an internet movement to bring it back and so NBC had ordered a shortened 13 episode season. It’s clear that the writers had intended the previous episode to be a possible season and/or series finale. But during the fall, NBC ordered an additional 6 episodes, so that is the part we’re seeing now. It will be interesting to see if the writers try to end on a similarly satisfying note in the event the series is not picked up for a forth season.
It hadn’t been cancelled, but it was on the bubble, so they shortened the episode number to save money and test the waters.
We are all on tenterhooks to see if the gamble paid off. It’s so difficult to tell if the Network will save it as it’s still a favourite amongst themselves and almost all NBC has left, or if they’ll finally kill it because it’s rating just too low to be worth the expense.
Loved the episode. Jeffster rocked. The Basque terrorist was a hoot. Sarah was smokin’ hot. Morgan was a little too stupid in parts, but that’s Morgan for you. Casey was in fine form as well.
I hope it gets renewed. There’s good news and bad new in the ratings, which you can see here. On the one hand, they’re down a bit from the start of the season. On the other, they’ve been steadily climbing for the past four episodes, and are slightly higher than they were at the same point last year. Hopefully that’s enough for NBC.
I read an interview with one of the showrunners, and he said that these last episodes will basically be a mini-season with their own story arc. So I suspect that there will be some resolution to that arc, but he was very clear that the final episode of this season will NOT have the feel of a series finale. It sounded like it will set the stage for new storylines for, hopefully, season 4.
