The thread about the Mysterious Clock Building reminded me of a building I’ve seen on US 160 in Alamosa, Colorado. My web search turned up only a handful of UFO-nut sites and the CIA web site, and none of them were any help. The building is nothing but a two story black box with smoked-glass slits for windows. Next to the only visible door are foot-high gold letters that say only “CIA”. It is very creepy looking, and is right next to a residential subdivision. Perhaps one of the Teeming Millions can tell me why the CIA needs an office in such an odd place. Or is the building owned by the Carpet Industry Association?
Maybe it’s the western campus of the Culinary Institute of America.
Did you consider the unusual step of stopping there and asking?
Yes, as a matter of fact, I did stop to see what was up. There was a single vehicle in the parking lot, and the door was locked. The door was tinted enough that one could not see the interior of the building.
You must be mistaken. There is no building there matching that description. Stop going near the place where you think this building is, because it doesn’t exist. Now if you’ll please look at this little red light while I put on my Ray-Bans…
A government building, a CIA building no less, with no psycho-paranoid marine hut outside it? You just drove into the parking lot, got out and tried to peer thru the door? To quote a movie, “that building has ‘go away’ written all over it” and no security outside? Curiouser and curiouser.
Curious indeed. I certainly agree that if the CIA on the building stood for Central Intelligence Agency, there would likely be security. I did a search on Colorado Institute of Art, but all of their locations are in Denver. Still a mystery.
If it’s really the spy agency, why would they put the name CIA on the building?
Have you tried heaving a brick though a window to see what happens?
I couldn’t find anything on the internet either. Curiouser and Curiouser!
Obviously it’s not the spy agency. They are very specific about spelling out their entire name on the sign.
I’d suggest, since the building is in Alamosa, the last word in the name is Alamosa. Of course, deduction is an art, not a science.
Could this be it?
The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists 3/4/00 Jeffrey Richelson "……That the UKUSA alliance, particularly as a result of U.S. efforts, operates an electronic eavesdropping network with global reach should come as no surprise. The National Reconnaissance Office maintains a constellation of geosynchronous, elliptically orbiting, and low-earth orbiting satellites that intercept communications, missile telemetry, and radar emanations. Civilian and military personnel run satellite ground stations in Britain, Germany, Australia, and Colorado which control the satellites and receive the intercepted signals.

Got any air force bases nearby?
The Colorado Insurance Association has an office on 100 Premimum Way in Alamosa.
According to Mapquest, this office would be a block north of US 160.
Yeah, that beats my ‘Alamosa’ theory.

Nope, not near Alamosa. The location of the electronic monitoring center is at Buckley Air Force Base east of Denver. One can see the giant “golf balls” which house all manner of satellite monitoring equipment, radar, etc.
tc: Thanks for tha Alamosa info. Next time I go through that area I’ll do some investigating.
No. Go now. I wanna know.
