Qualifying a blanket statement is so very easy to do, and, I believe, it is incumbent upon the speaker of a statement to do so, let the dumb bitch be misunderstood. Which will probably happen anyway. See axiom A.

Besides, the context of that statement was roughly: Poster 1 said something like “All she needs are red eyes and then she’d be an albino” - Poster 2 said “Actually, albinos have blue eyes” - which to me sounds as if Poster 2 is correcting Poster 1 and basically stating that there are no albinos with red eyes. All Poster 2 (PerditaX) had to do was to add a four-letter word: “Actually, MOST albinos have blue eyes.”
What I find annoying is PerditaX’s attitude, as if she inadverdently posted on a touchy topic that has set off some kind of profound debate. There is no “can of worms” here, only a lack of clarification of what is arguably a blanket statement. What part of “Sorry, I should have been more clear” is so difficult to say?
Post 49 should read “*lest *the dumb bitch be misunderstood.”

Dearheart, I didn’t degenerate it. It was Frylock (coming to my defense, to be sure) and Cisco who took it to Pit level. I didn’t “admit my mistake” because I wasn’t convinced I’d made one, frankly. See, I know a person who is a blue-eyed albino. What I had been given to understand from her is that, as opposed to albino animals who are pink-eyed, albino humans were blue-eyed. She never said “most,” and I assumed she’d be in a position to know.
Okay, apparently some albino humans are red-eyed. I guess this is good to know now. I believe that, at that point, I conceded that I was incorrect in not adding a “most,” and attempted to stop the flaming at that point. So how exactly is this my fault?

He never said that blue-eyed ones didn’t or that pink-eyed ones were more common. You decided to respond by telling him to go look it up on Wiki instead of conceding you, in fact, had been in error.
When Cisco called you out on your attitude you said:

I don’t have a dog in this fight. I’ve lost interest in Lost ever since the second season and I couldn’t care less about how many possible eye colors there are for albinos. But the way **PerditaX **

- never apologized for it
- snapped at the person who took the trouble to correct her, and
- painted herself as being persecuted for her “/nitpick/”
pisses me off enough to take the time and trouble to post about it. You aren’t being called out for the nitpick. You’re being called out for being unable to gracefully admit being wrong.
I do think PerditaX could have (and to a certain extent should have) clarified herself later in the conversation.
But as I said in my previous post, I think it was completely obvious from the beginning which interpretation was intended.

I must admit that one of your cites was so detailed that it won me over. This is a memorable day! A fellow Doper changed my mind! I now believe that most albinos actually have blue eyes although sometimes they appear to be pink.
However, you get points off for using Wiki as if it were a meaningful cite. Bad. Very bad. Go to your room.
