City of Heroes Super Team FINAL JOINING INFO

welp… I have been ‘splorin’, and ‘sperimentin’… I have stuck with three characters (for now) I got a Blaster/Fire Manipulator called BurninSensation… a Tanker called the Verbena Beast, and a Scrapper called the American Storm ( a blatant Captain America ripoff… only without a shield, using martial arts) I would some background writing help, but I can’t remember who is mutant and who is science… hope to see some of y’all online soon!

I just spent a little time at lunch checking out the official message board. :smack:

It seems that half of the posters are seriously up in arms because the Hasten ability was nerfed. I hope this doesn’t hurt any of you too badly. This is the exact reason why I hate playing a MMORPG when it first comes out. Similar circumstances caused my characters in Dark Age of Camelot and Star Wars Galaxies to become worthless. That’s when I decided that it was a fun first month, but they weren’t getting me to resubscribe. Maybe my approach for CoH is going to work better though. I have no idea of what power is supposed to be “must have”, so maybe I won’t have nerfed powers.

I have a few questions for you more seasoned players. First, when should I start getting dual origin enhancements? Are these purchased from merchants?

My other question is about battle cries. Is there a default hot key for the battle cry in the character information? I know that I can bind a hot key to get a battle cry to appear when I run into battle. Is that what people are doing? If so, what channel is considered proper? I’m guessing it would be local.

Ah, but last night we did discover that you can make a dandy team with just 2 defenders and 2 controllers! Air Goddess, Volt Valkyrie, Purple Pixie, ** and myself, ** Mutha Nature took on a door mission full of Vahz. I don’t think any of us girls got even close to dying once. We just went in with earth control, storm summoning, electrical manipulation, et al. and kicked zombie booties.

Grrl Power!

Bought the game over the weekend and am loving it so far. Not sure it’ll replace EQ for me, but it’s certainly a fun diversion.

Unfortunately, all my good characters are on Courage, but I went to Virtue and made Mother Marie, the mace weilding tanker nun. I reached the lofty heights of lvl 3 before a server down message came across and I had to quit out. I’ll probably wind up rolling a few more just because character generation is so much fun, but I’ll shoot out an email next time I’m on and try to catch my gimp butt up with you high muckity-mucks.

My Life as a Four Foot Tall Super Powered Cowboy
Hee!

We did make an awesome group (I’m also the Volt Valkyrie (which was supposed to be the Voltaic Valkyrie, but there’s a 15 letter limit on names :frowning: ). ) But later that night without Mutha Nature, the three of us died multiple times fighting Nazis on a timed mission. Got through it eventually with some help at the end from a blaster (forgot his name).

I’ve stopped reading the official CoH boards. Too many people complaining. The game is fun and I don’t care if my character is not the perfect build.

Thanks for the friendly welcome and I will look y’all up in the game. I’m generally in Steel Canyon atm, trying to level up to 13. I’ve been playing sidekick to my exhusband  and that’s been going better than it has, though I’ve not played in his supergroup yet as they are all veteran Everquesters and just a tad intimidating.

Probably won’t be on much next day or so … I did come to Amsterdam to see Amsterdam, not spend all day indoors playing CoH

Korenwolf

AMEN! That is what ruined EQ for me… everybody had to be the best most 7l33t Uber combination… Whos cares if a science scrapper martial arts/reflexes isnt the most powerful character in the game? If it’s fun, go with it!

Sigh. Admiral Chill’s job is a thankless one, fighting evil and rushing to the aid of his teammates, who only think of him as a walking gun. He has feelings too!

(The fact that he’s still figuring out how the map works, and it takes him at least 30 minutes just to even meet up with the team is irrelevant.)

I think avoiding the official message boards for just about any online game is the best tactic. Some people see the fun in these games as optimizing their characters and getting through levels as quickly as possible; that’s not me at all. I prefer to just get into the game as it’s presented and figure it out as I go along, trying whatever sounds fun even if it is a “waste of time.” One of the most annoying things about Final Fantasy XI was being reminded constantly that I was playing a sub-optimal character combination, when I’d picked Black Mage/Monk just because those were my 2 favorite classes from the single-player FF games and I thought it sounded cool.

I hope to meet up with the rest of C.E.C.I.L. again soon – as much fun as I’d been having playing solo, being on a team was even cooler. And having two characters fly up alongside a building to scout for bad guys while the others stayed on-ground to patrol triggered one of those geek fanboy moments I haven’t gotten from a game in a long time.

Yeah, teaming up is the way to go. I mean, why spend the money on a multiplayer game and play by yourself?

Oh I’m Purple Pixie by the way, as well as Harold and Stone Sentinel. Haven’t played Stone too much though. I’m considering a new character too, something weird and freaky. I’ll let you guys know.

Yea, the IGN boards made some of my DAoC time pretty miserable. I’d go in looking for a Rogue (or something, I don’t remember the classes) guide (and I tend to do what I want, but I like to look at several “optimal” builds) or something and would have to go through pages and pages of “OMG!!! TEHY NERFED ROGUES!!!” for every patch and these detailed charts of how the new patch would mean your DoT only did 3.01 damage per tick instead of 3.2, like it used to, and how it messed the whole game up and it sucked. It was pretty obnoxious, but all the negativism kinda hurt my enthusiasm for the game. And from browsing other game forums from time to time, it’s the same all over. And all the forum fanboys are just WAITING for the Next Big Game which is going to be SOOO much cooler (except when it isn’t) than the one they’re apparently being forced to play by those cruel, cruel game designers.

Ahem, can you tell they irritate me?

The biggest problem I’m having with Lysander is how to train him. Do I want to focus on group-handy or solo-handy skills? Like next time I get a skill, I may take Caltrops, cause someone we grouped with had em and they were pretty sweet for slowing down a horde of baddies. Or I may be able to take Flight, which would be cool, but not as useful.

Frankly, I think the coolest thing I can do is Hover, turn on Stealth, and then use Sniper Rifle. Hee hee hee!

Finally got some money together to buy City of Heroes!

I’m currently a level 4 mutant blaster (electricity-based) known as Levinworth. I love this game soooo much! I’m on Virtue, patrolling around Galaxy City. I’m kind of stuck, though. I took a mission from Prince something-or-other, and I had to bust up four labs in a building with Skulls in it. The probelm? There were only three labs in the building. I have searched all over, every inch, and there is NO fourth lab, so I can’t finish the mission. I have searhced about ten times, left the building, went back in searched again, but no fourth lab. I sent a bug report, though I’m sure it’s just hard to find, or I’m an idiot, or something.

Other than that, no big problems.

Don’t worry Admiral, Air Goddess remembers you. If it hadn’t been you showing up, we would have had to let Harold take care of the mission for us. That would have been embarassing. The 3 of us just did not have what it took for that mission.

bouv, I had that happen on that mission too. I did it with one other person, and we never did find the lab. But my teammate quit, so I went back alone and it had reset, so I had to do the entire thing again by myself. But I did find all 4 labs that time. Definitely a glitch in the system.

Anyone else having any trouble with screenshots? PSP is giving me an error and I don’t have any other image viewers that support .tga files. Granted, it’s an old copy of PSP (v5.0) but I don’t imagine .tga’s have changed since the 90’s and it is a supported format.

I downloaded IrfanView and it is working great to transfer .tga to .jpg.

Done and done. Thanks!

Fear the Nun – Rrwar!

Mother Marie is just too awesome. You should have her say things like, “Feel my holy wrath, punk!”

I guess my nun idea wasn’t as original as I thought it’d be. I don’t think I can outdo that one anyway. Maybe I’ll make a priest instead. Father Flame! Power Pope!

Has anyone seen Priam/Frank N. Furter on CoH lately?

If it makes you feel better, “Mother Superior” was already taken on Virtue so I’m apparently no Thomas Edison of character design myself

I give full credit to the excellent design engine for letting me make a decent nun costume. I sent you an in-game email Max. Let me know if you never got it, but it was confirming that I’m me. The rules say you have to be lvl 10 to join a SG – is that truth? I was actually getting drive-by SG invites last night (not team invites, actual Supergroup ones) at lvl 5. Go figure.

You don’t have to be level 10 to be in a super group. You might have to be 10 to start one though.

The low level C.E.C.I.L. team last night was fun. Ryle definitely wasn’t letting any moss grow in his gun barrel. I was sorry that I had to duck out so soon.
