Big Tobacco is about the funniest thing I’ve seen today… my brain is filled with too many catch phrases and war cries to even list
Who else wishes they could play with the costume creator *offline *(to their heart’s content)?
Right here. Especially if it let you create a character without having to go through the tutorial for each one.
Also, I really wish they let you see if a name were taken at the beginning of the character-creation process. I had what I thought was a great idea on the morning commute the other day, spent all day at work hoping to get home and try it, rushed back home thinking of costume ideas, spent an hour making the character and back story, then got to the end and found that the name “Amazing Grace” wasn’t as novel and original as I’d thought.
tanstaafl, that expansion sounds awesome. I can’t wait.
How about…
DON’T MESS WITH THE GUY IN… waitasec, where’s that… THE ARMOR!
Peace.
Yeah, the character creator is the bomb. So far, just on Virtue, I have:
Super-Collider (tech Defender)
Brainiac4 (tech Controller)
Dr. Livingstone (magic Tanker) – big rock guy
American Legend (science Tanker)
Thermocline (mutant Blaster)
Mistress Mortis (natural Scrapper)
Dr. Entropy (magic Controller)
Sgt. Soldier (natural Blaster)
I think I may have gone overboard.
If you guys want an offline costume maker, try Hero Machine. It’s similar in concept to the City of Heroes costume maker, but it’s 2D only.
As for backstory, here’s what I got:
Harold Levin, my level 11 tech blaster, was originally supposed to be named Nikola Tesla, but the name was taken. I had a story that Tesla had an accident in the lab that propelled him into the future, but since he’s not Tesla I left that part out. So Levin is just some random inventor who likes lightning, and made himself a battle suit and is constantly upgrading it. Oh and “levin” is an archaic word for “lightning” by the way.
I also have a magic tanker called The Stone Sentinel, he’s basically an earth elemental. With grass for hair. And he’s only 5’ tall, but he can still smash things with his stone hammer.
Style question, do I write my background in 1st person “I was born a living rock. Since my mutation was obvious, I make no effort to hide my idenetity…”
OR third person
“he was born a living rock…”
Brian
I saw Ryle on last night and said Hi, so I thought I’d introduce myself. My character is a Level 10 mutant scrapper called Korenwolf. I appreciate the offer to join up with y’all but atm I don’t think I’m good enough. This is the first time I’ve played a game like this and the learning curve is proving to be a bit steep, tho not as bad as I expected. Also, I’m on at very strange times as I’m in Amsterdam atm, then back to London next week and I don’t know if it’ll work on my pc there without some upgrading. I’ll be in Oklahoma from June - August so more on the same time zone with you guys and hopefully Korenwolf will have learned how to play well with others by then. That is, of course, that the game will run on my laptop (rather unlikely, I’ve been told). Til then, have fun and if I see you around I’ll say hi and lend a hand if I can.
Brainiac4, you could find a heroic battel cry, then make up some keybinds that you can use to give the idea you are not sure what is going on. “Hmmm, what do I hit to fly again? Oh yeah!” That kind of thing.
This is thread on the basics of keybinding on the COH forums. And here is a thread full of examples of other peoples binds. Lots of nice examples there.
BethCro, hop on in. I work until 11 EDT, so I have odd times for playing too. But I am still a member of the group.

Pfft. I daresay we’re more social club than hardcore gamers (considering that I, at one point, was pulling a 2000+ XP debt from a series of poor combat decisions), you’d be more than welcome.
Argh! We finally got the software in and now it won’t send the email verification. I’ve tried my isp host and yahoo.com = no email. Anyone else have this problem?
Well, I signed up the Wednesday it came out and it took about an hour for my confirmation email to show up. I figured it was the number of people accessing at once.
Don’t be intimidated by us! If we’re experts, I hate to see amateurs, considering how badly we get beat sometimes. I think my main character has been in continual xp debt for the past three or so days. Still going up in level though, thank goodness for their debt system.
We’re very friendly, so just give us a /tell. Many of us have characters at different levels, and the sidekick option makes it easy to play together.
Bah! I didn’t have much for play time over the weekend. Maybe tonight will work out better.
We finally got in last night. **DeVena ** (magic - defender) and **Zah Kree ** (mutation - blaster). (Not real original with names, but these are the first characters.) **verbenabeast ** made a character last night, couldn’t meet up with him, but he’s in Atlas Park too.
We’re definitely not worried about how good you are. My character, Super-Collider, is a defender, so his job is to make it easier for everyone else, with a mix of buffs, debuffs and healing.
I haven’t played the scrapper much, so I’m going from observation rather than experience, but…
The single best piece of advice I can give you on playing well with a group is: don’t rush in too fast. There’s an exhange earlier in this thread about us all getting our asses handed to us by some tough bad guys. That happened because someone triggered them to come after us. You’ll usually see the bad guys before they see you. As a scrapper, your natural tendency is probably to wade in there and start, uh, scrapping. That may well trigger a whole gang to come after you, which in turn could get your teammates killed trying to save you.
Listen to the group, especially the leader. Pay attention to tactics, and know your role. As a scrapper, you supply a lot of damage, but you’ll have a hard time surviving if a large group targets you.
Just to add to Brainiac’s advice some, here’s one thing I’ve learned. Your character’s solo style and group play style are probably going to be very different. When I solo my Blaster, I have to kite (shoot em, run like hell, shoot again, repeat til dead), whereas when I’m in a group, I can just stand my ground and shoot whatever catches my eye. It’s kinda hard to shift back to running after all that standing and fighting.
Uh, actually Brainic4, that was me who went charging in. Sorry about that. :smack:
I have a Tanker so when soloing I pretty much have to charge into the middle of the mobs and flail away. When grouped though it seems to be better to let the Blasters open the battle then intercept the melee guys when they charge us to keep them off of the Blasters. Then you can wade into the middle of whoever is left. Seems to work better, though we still get our asses handed to us from time to time. (Clockwork Princes anyone?)
Hey, it happens. It’s just debt, and in a good group, that works off pretty quickly.
Now, if you make a habit of it, we’ll have to discipline you.
And sometimes if you do it right, you still get your butts kicked. 2 teams I was on last night, one with each Virtue character, kept getting our heads handed to us on door missions. It was understandable for the first one, 2 defenders and 1 contoller, not enough damage output. The one with Justice Blues, Lysander Thorne, and Harold Levin was just plain nasty. We all died multiple times. And I still leveled.
