CSPAN2 is repeating the “Book TV” program tonight, 9-11pm. Then "History on Book TV runs 11-midnight. After that “Book TV” picks up again and runs from midnight to 6am.
Maybe the Clinton presentation will be included somewhere in that coverage.
Or does the timing of the Clinto spot vis a vis Reagan’s death have something to do with your wrath?
Heh. All the talk about Clinton’s book upstaging Kerry’s nomination and Reagan goes and upstages them both. Much as I disliked the man, I can’t help but admire his one last theatrical gesture.
From what I understand Reagan was far past recognizing even his family toward the end, but the actor in him wouldn’t have relished the impeccable timing. Damned if his last act didn’t thoroughly upstage Clinton anyway.
Which is perfectly okay. Clinton is still a relatively young man, with plenty of time to spin and plead his case for history. Betcha he’ll be gracious about it anyway. Call it glibness or graciousness, Clinton always gave “good funeral”.
Antiochus, you’ve misunderstood me completely - I have no wrath. Otto has hit the nail on the head. Imagine you’re Bill Clinton, trying to promote your new book, one that, under ordinary circumstances, would generate a lot of interest and, more important for sales, air time. Admittedly, getting a shot on CSPAN isn’t exactly the slot immediately after The Sopranos, but still, to be completely upstaged by the death of one of your political foes! So, Bill Clinton, it would appear, has The. Worst. Timing. Ever.
Yes, I missed your point. Sorry. You’'ll have to admit your post was not only cryptic, it was ambiguous. Thank you for amplifying.
But don’t weep for Bill. Please remember, the spot originally ran on Thursday. Today was a rerun. Gravy. Yet, I enjoyed it more the second time around than I did the first.
And I’ll be one of the milions who’ll buy his book.
It’ll still be a big seller and it got good news coverage. And even if it wasn’t going to sell, he still has the $10 or $12 million the publishers paid him for it.
True, and I suspect the Reagan frenzy will die down pretty quickly after his funeral, since he hasn’t been a “public figure” for the last decade. In a way, Reagan’s death and funeral will provide a bit of a respite from the dismal drumbeat that has been the daily news lately.
