I have no idea how that extra quote got in there.
At least the Trump statue was taken down legally by the parks workers.
Hillary was vandalized by a mob.
That photo of the angry mob is what got my blood boiling.
You have a strange way of defining “unequal treatment.” Let’s set aside for a moment the fact your claims are all wrong anyway, and just talk about “unequal treatment.”
“Unequal treatment” in any sense that matters in a civic term does not mean the public reacts to Person A differently than they do Person B. The fact Bruce Springsteen has sold fifty million albums while some obscure garage band called “The Ass Hats” has sold 73 does not constitute “unequal treatment” in a civic sense. Both parties had a chance to exhibit their products to the public, and one had the skill, artistry and marketing savoir faire to sell many albums, while the other did not.
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are not treated the same by private citizens and organizations, but that’s not “unequal treatment,” it’s that they’re more or less successful in appealing to different demographics. (I would point out that in this regard, Trump has been BETTER treated in some respects.) But they are being equally treated in a civic sense. Both have been given a chance to run for President and will stand on equal ground come November 8 in the eyes of the law.
Now, if the people of the City and State of New York find Donald Trump much more repulsive and angering than they do Hillary Clinton, that’s not “unequal treatment,” that’s losing the goddamned election. If they laugh at Trump and make fun of him to an extent they do not do so with Clinton, or if the folks at Saturday Night Live (New Yorkers, at least professionally) decide to make fun of him, what that is called, in legal terms, is “tough shit.”
Yes, I know. Your feelings and impressions were more important than easily verified facts. That’s called being a Trump voter.
This artist says that she was physically attacked by a Trump supporter. Do you angrily denounce him for ignoring her First Amendment rights?
The constant battering of Trump is getting to me. It’s just piling on. Kicking a guy that’s down.
Then someone pokes a little fun at Hillary’s expense and a mob forms.
I guess everyone just wants this election nightmare finished. Let’s elect Hillary and we can move forward.
That’s a mob?
The rest seem to be watching and taking photos.
It’s more of a mob than the mythical 9/11 celebrants that Trump didn’t see but has an impression of.
That’s terrible and disgraceful.
I fully support free expression in written word, music and art.
I appreciated the satire in the Trump and Hillary statues. Art is intended to start a dialogue. Obviously these statues did.
Fortunately, Trump hasn’t taken tough press coverage personally… since 1989!: Trump in 1989: Tough press coverage doesn't bother me anymore
The Trump statue in Cleveland Heights, Ohio was put up on a public sidewalk without city permission and quickly taken down by police: http://www.cleveland.com/cleveland-heights/index.ssf/2016/09/naked_donald_trump_statue_to_b.html
You’ve got to be kidding. Trump has done everything he can to demean and insult his opponents (including other Republicans), and continues to do so in the most outrageous terms. If he’s down, it’s because of his own actions.
A wounded animal lashes out at everything near it
That’s Trump. He knows his campaign is dying. He’s snarling and showing his teeth, but it’s all a show now.
A truly sensible suggestion.
He’s been lashing out all his life. That’s just who he is.
I think that part of your mistake is due to an impression that there was only 1 Trump statue. In fact, they popped up in 5 cities overnight back in August. After being promptly removed, they showed up later in two other cities (owing to their popularity). There was more coverage because there were more incidents.
Of course it’s reprehensible. But I’ve read so many on these very boards who say 1st amendment only has to do with government suppression and there are no protections against “consequences.”
One expects more of a presidential candidate than one does of an animal. But you’re the one who made the comparison, not me.
He’s been lashing out since the beginning of the campaign. And with his claims that the election is rigged even before the vote he’s seeking to undermine the legitimacy of the democratic process. This is not “just show,” it’s profoundly dangerous. I would say at this point it’s verging on seditious.
I had quite the detailed analysis going until I got to the third page. :smack:
Who is Blue State Digital?
Trump deserves all the scorn and derision he is getting, and then some. If he is going to lose, he is happy to take down American democracy with him. He needs to be shown to be the fool, and to be thoroughly and completely defeated and humiliated on election day, so that nobody feels any sense of allegiance to him after this is all said and done. The alternative is something horrendous, like a person inspired to literal political assassination.
Huh. It’s almost like I had a point there…
