Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

So could this be a case of a disgruntled ex-husband trying to fuck over his ex-wife?
As in: “yeah bitch. Guess what I still have on my phone. And guess who I’m going to show it to!”

Uh, no. Weiner is being investigated for sexting underage girls across state lines.

I get that. But if Weiner feels like he is going down in flames, it wouldn’t surprise me if he tried to take down his wife (And Clinton by proxy) with him.

The New Your Times is reporting thousands of emails, not 3.

Newsweek coverage is saying the same thing. A source better than “guy on tiwtter” isn’t named. They at least aren’t following the “sources on social media” claim style of reporting.

The criptic “may” and the ‘who knows’ position tells me that the emals are emails would be just like most democrats would had gotten from Hillary, very mundane but related stuff to politics to be sent to rank and file democrats, I really do not see why Clinton would send anything special or confidential to what was still then a very controversial Democrat, when the wife was the one that was supposed to be geting the more crucial information.

I’m guessing that if there is, indeed, a videotape of Trump using the n-word it will be released sometime in the very near future.

I’m guessing that would have already been released.

That’s the thing, for those saying the timing is suspicious… is it really, though? I’m new to poll watching, but the undecideds have already decided at this point. It’s quite rare that something happens this close to an election that sways the vote, isn’t it?

It seems for the timing to be ‘suspicious’ it would have been released two weeks ago.

I don’t think Comey deserves the heat on this one. Sounds like he was just doing his job.

I’m trying to grasp the connection between the Weiner investigation and the Clinton emails…

could it be: the FBI is poring over a raft of Weiner emails, and somebody notices that there’s a bunch that have the same IP address as the famous Private Server. Probably from Weiner’s ex-wife, using Hillary’s email.

Ding ding, alarms go off, it goes up the chain to Comey and he says “oh crap, we gotta go public with this.”

It could turn to be just a bunch of mundane stuff between Weiner and whatshername, not even involving Hillary, much less classified info.

Fingers crossed.

Is someone claiming this? This is the first time I’ve heard of it.

Epic Rap Battles of History: Clinton vs Trump

Sam Wang over at Princeton Election Consortium had a very interesting article a couple of weeks ago challenging the common perception that the Access Hollywood tapes were really damaging to Trump. He was of the opinion that the movement in the polls was due instead to Trump’s bad performance in the first debate. He thinks that the political environment is so polarized and tribal at the moment that literally nothing will change voters’ minds. This current e-mail thing looks like it might not really amount to much, but if it gets sufficiently hyped then it could be an interesting further test of the hypothesis.

I have to admit that I’m in that camp as well. Regardless of what comes out of the e-mail investigation, it seems to me a political sin within normal parameters of misconduct. If there was something in there sufficiently egregious (like Clinton talking about her participation in murders or something) then I could be persuaded not to vote for her like I’m intending to do at the moment, but it would be a question of leaving the ballot blank at that point - there is literally nothing Clinton could do or have done that would make me vote for Trump.

Not so much deplorable as abhorrent.

Wait a minute. I thought the “liberal news media” was conspiring against Trump. Hard to say WHICH way the system is rigged now.

Oh, I don’t know. Perhaps the 11 days before the election part. They postponed the Trump’s rape of a 13 year old girl case until December, which was supposed to take place in October.

I agree. As an attorney, albeit w/ almost no background on this particular topic, the explanations being put forward on the SDMD and in the media make perfect sense to me. What I meant is that for someone who is in a position to release the alleged videotape(s) containing unbroadcasted footage of Trump using the n-word, for strategical purposes it would make sense to do it now. Throughout this campaign, the polls have basically shifted against the candidate receiving more coverage, and in favor of the one laying low.

Right, but what I meant is that for strategical purposes it might not make sense to do it now, because statistically, it is probably too late in the election cycle to make much difference. The same is probably also true for the e-mails, whatever might be in them. Nobody is changing their vote to Trump because of those e-mails.

Ambrosio’s linked article, and the argument behind it, is pretty interesting. Worth checking out.

Here’s one example.

Huma Abedin, according to the wiki-thingy, was deputy chief of staff at state, under a special provision that allowed her to work from home (to be with her child) and also to act as a consultant for some private businesses, including CIAoca-Cola and MF Global. e-mail on her computer could, in theory, reveal important insight into State.

Yes, one of Sam Wang’s themes this election season is that news doesn’t move the polls significantly or permanently. This is a good test of that theory.
