A hundred years ago today, November 7, 1916, Montana sent Jeannette Rankin, the first woman to hold Federal office in this country, to the House of Representatives.
I hope Clinton mentions that when she gives a speech after she’s elected tomorrow evening.
I hear you. All the facts say that Clinton is going to win, but I won’t be able to relax until it’s a done deal.
But her winning will just be the first step. We still have to deal with the fact that a large segment of our population believes that someone like Trump is even a remotely appropriate choice for President. Those people will continue to elect legislators who seem to have only one intent: gum up the workings of government and thwart the will of the people, even if it means not solving some critical problems.
We won’t be out of the woods. Our government will still be in a very precarious situation that’s a threat to the people, the country, and the planet.
Early voting indicates Clinton might have Florida and Nevada in the bag. Assuming she does win those two is there any realistic path to victory for Trump?
If he loses Florida and Nevada then he has to take North Carolina, New Hampshire, and flip a couple of bluer states like Pennsylvania and Michigan. Those last two don’t look likely based on polling, but it’s not an impossibility. Blue-collar white voters (and fewer hispanic voters) could give Trump a chance in those states.
They haven’t been counting the actual votes yet, so when they report how many registered Democrats and Republicans have cast their ballots in early voting, I’m left wondering how many of those Republicans have voted for Clinton.
The incredibly volatile 538 has Clinton’s chances of winning shooting up today. They have her at 70.1% currently with Nevada, North Carolina and Florida flipping from red to blue today.
It will be a pleasure to see the Orange Jerk lose.
If he doesn’t lose, then he was right—America really is in bad shape. When he loses, he will help make America great again! Just as promised!

When it’s all said and done Trump will lose because he is an asshole.
This election was custom made for a Republican win: 8 years of a Democrat president - that alone should get you at least 75% there - but then you had the most unpopular Democratic candidate in modern history, with baggage and scandals, a career politician when everybody wanted an “outsider”. What better set up for the GOP? Who could blow that? Well, as we’ll see in a few hours, Trump. He will be the biggest loser in modern election history. Probably not by the numbers, but by the size of the chance utterly blown. And why? The fundamental reason is simply because he’s such an asshole. He could have said pretty much everything he said, had the same positions (such as he had any) on “the issues”, and yeah, maybe even shot someone in broad daylight on 5th Ave, and if he’d just come across as a more likable person, or even just as not so much a despicable person, just a little bit unlikable instead of totally repulsive, or even just a little bit level headed instead of frighteningly out of control, he would have won.
But he couldn’t do that.
Live by being an asshole, die by being an asshole.
The latest nonsense coming out of Kellyanne Conway’s mouth is “If only people all of whose grandparents were born in the United States were allowed to vote, Trump would win all 50 states.” Does she not know that would preclude Trump and all of his kids?
