Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

As noted above, this Baumgardner was also noted for being a disaster as a spokeperson on television interviews, so maybe no big loss.

But dang. How long shot of a path for Trump does it become without winning Florida? His Florida shot is sinking fast. The Cuba embargo rule breaking is bad. The Miss Housekeeping comment being pushed to the top of the cycle is bad. Your most visible Florida staff people jumping off the ship … bad.

Meanwhile Clinton having a big rally in Coral Springs, both discussing her vision, her plans, some audience specific respect and shout outs, and of course some Trump bashing. Good.

If and when he loses, and the Republicans are through with having to pretend to like him, this is not going to end well for him.

I tried to make the most favorable map to Trump where he loses Florida. To offset it, he would need to win Ohio, NC, NH, Penn, Colorado, and Nevada to give him a 1 vote win.

I’m hoping for a resounding win by Hillary in Florida just so it can be all locked up early and everyone can go to bed at a reasonable time.

I’ll be sipping champagne into the wee hours, just like election nights '92, '96, '08 & '12…

There appear to be three principal aspects to Trump’s smartness:

  • stiffing the contractors who have worked for him

  • stiffing his own country while exploiting all its advantages

  • insulting just about everyone who has ever crossed his path – the New York Times has compiled a fine list, though it’s surely incomplete.

We also know Trump is smart because he’s told us so many times. Very smart, in fact. The best kind of smart. He would be the smartest president in history, with the best health ever, believe me.

I’m more cynical: I think he just pissed them off by playing them for rubes at his hotel grand opening – excuse me “clearing the air on the Birther stuff” – event.

Apparently I am. Consider my earlier post retracted. Now I have to go find out who I was thinking of. I’ll post a proper correction once I have that.

If Trump would just do his homework, he can counter that Clinton herself has been in the habit of stiffing people:

Only until Trump unleashes more 3:00am tweets against the little guy. As with the Machado meltdown, his reaction does more damage than Clinton’s original attack. Advantage Clinton.

So, this morning at 3:20 AM, there was another tweet storm. But this time, it was Hillary, tweeting about national service. The first tweet starts off with “it’s 3:20 AM, seems like the perfect time to tweet about national service.” Excellent trolling of Donald.

Fantastic! What a brilliant way to highlight the contrasts between the candidates – use Trump’s unusual media practices, but to convey a very different sort of message.

(Kind of fits in with Cecil’s Marshall Macluhan piece, posted on the SD site about a week ago).

Now I know you’re always on message, but this is kind of sad, Adaher.

The police bill was paid. Twice, actually. All one has to do is look up the FEC records and see two payments of $1,769.66, one made in March, the other in April. The 2nd payment was reimbursed.

The second? Cash flow issues, resolved, debts paid off. I note that the ABC news article, while breathlessly relaying the fact that Mandy Grunwald is owed $467,000, seems to have ignored the fact that, at the time of the article’s publication, Clinton had already paid Grunwald $3.2 million for services rendered. You can follow the money chain… and the payments… of all the ‘creditors’ listed in the article.

Don’t fall into the Trumpian trap of believing just because you say something, it’s a fact.

Of course there is an alternate explanation, I have the theory that many conservatives have trouble noticing time lines or the march of time. Many silly talking points depend on many not noticing items like that.

Either that or my other wild and silly theorem that posts that he has the uncanny x-men like ability to make a claim so shattering of the time-space continuum that the universe violently reacts to him and goes back in time and ensures that his say-so’s will be wrong. ;):stuck_out_tongue:

Nah, it all depends on falling for spin by the likes of The Daily Caller that “forgot” to tell their readers the details that JohnT was talking about. Then The Daily Caller and others just paste and link thinking that the spin makes them sound so knowledgeable when in reality the opposite does happen.

The point here for adaher is one that I make many times, choose your sources of information better, and do yourself a favor: you are only looking bad because of the constant burn that those sources gave you by using them, demand better from them or drop those sources of information.

Trump’s not so sure he would accept a Hillary presidency if she won after all.

I keep tabs via this site which shows David Rothschild’s and Betfair predictions. Trump has fallen 9% in just five days, from about 31% to 22%. (36% to 26% at Betfair.)

Hillary is now favored to win the same states won by Obama in 2012 except with North Carolina (D likelihood 61%) and Iowa (45%) swapping alignments. Florida, a must-win for Trump, is 70% likely to go D.

Do NOT take it easy; Get Out The Vote; we need Trump’s chance to fall to Zero. Paraphrasing another Doper, “Would you get on an airplane with a 22% chance of crashing?”

I’m mostly just surprised that it took this long for him to go back on his word. Hopefully someone will hold his feet to the fire over it in a subsequent debate. But there’s an even greater chance that it will just be forgotten.

It’s good to see that November 9 is still National Crybaby Whining Day.

I am really looking forward to the inevitable behind-the-scenes tell-all book about the Trump campaign. You gotta know that there are some serious angst-ridden screaming meetings going on this week.

Unfortunately, in this climate, anything other than gracious acceptance from the loser is going to be seen as a call for armed insurrection by his supporters.

People have been speculating and looking forward to Trump’s concession speech, but I have to wonder what a Hillary concession speech would be like.

“I concede the election to my opponent. I weep for what the country will soon shortly turn into, but tonight is a night to be gracious. I hope that he will lead the country well as he leaks classified information, turns NATO-Europe into a dangerous place, and cedes the ground to Russian and Chinese aggression. Congratulations and best wishes.”
