Just how hard is it to ignore someone? … There doesn’t seem to be any purpose to an “ignore list” other than to rub it in the ignoree’s nose … the poster’s I detest the most are the ones who provide sound arguments for their positions … they make me learn something, and then I have to admit to myself I’m wrong … I hate it when they force me to do that …
The only poster I have ever ignored was ignored not so much because I was tired of him attacking me in posts, as because I invariably found myself responding in knee-jerk fashion to whatever he was saying. It gave me an out from being an idiot myself.
Eventually, I removed him from ignore, because I had gotten less enraged by what I perceive as “posts which MUST be answered.”
My list is for those whose posts I deem no longer worth reading and it takes me a long time to get to that point. IIRC, there have been three; two are no longer active so they’re off the list.
Heh. As that happens to me too I concede point well made.
The problem, with all due respect, Clothahump, is that you don’t argue/debate in good faith. I’ve tried engaging you in threads, as have many others. For instance, in the Pit thread about Trump and police brutality, you ask for a citefor the specific part where Trump advocated police violence. Yet, you consistently call Hillary Clinton a felon, although she’s never been charged with or convicted of a crime.
I’m not trying to turn this into another Trump/Clinton thread. I’m trying to illustrate the double standard that you have attempted to establish. Do you see the disconnect? You make a blanket statement and never provide a source when asked for one (if you come back to the thread, which you don’t always. Life happens. I get it, and I ain’t mad atchya). If you DO return, you come in insulting people. But if someone contradicts or disagrees with you, you ask for a cite with the exact language that the poster says.
That’s arguing in bad faith. You hold your opposition to one standard of proof, but you’re not willing to hold yourself to the same requirement.
I don’t think you’re a bad guy. IRL, we’d probably get along fairly well so long as we don’t talk politics. But you make it hard for people to want to engage you in conversation.
I think, Clothahump, that some of the harsh insults directed at you, and that have come from you, have come about through a gradual escalation over time. No doubt we would all benefit from a little detente vis-a-vis this “arms race”.
It’s true that you start out at a disadvantage on this Board because you have a political worldview (right or wrong) that isn’t generally shared by a great many others here. That’s gotta get ones back up, I know. But as we see in this thread that is outside of the Pit, conversations involving you and concerning you needn’t be so vitriolic.
Cheers!
Same here. Besides, if someone’s involved in an actual debate and getting quoted a lot, you’ll see their posts anyway.
What’s the actual use of Ignore? To help yourself feel superior to some anonymous fool on the Internet? If your scroll wheel doesn’t do that, then the problem might be on your side of the keyboard.
Not only that, but I found the Ignored posts far too tantalizing: the fact that the board was telling me “You said you didn’t want to read this” just made me want to read it more. This is why my Ignore list only lasted a very brief time.
Far easier to just scan and scroll on.
I use it as a reminder that the person involved is not someone who can be rationally talked with. I don’t spend near the time here that I used to, so it’s a good reminder that replying to a certain poster is a complete waste of time. Most of the time I actually click to read what they say, but the ignore list reminds me not to bother responding.
No. I put them on ignore for being annoying twits. However, I guess you could say that I have had a revelation of sorts, and that I am missing out on cheap entertainment. That’s why I cleared the list.

I think this thread has pretty much run to completion, and it’s probably best to just close it before someone crosses the line and gets a warning for something like personal insults.
If anyone has a compelling reason to re-open it, send me a PM and I’ll consider it.
