Cloverfield+Rifftrax=great.....

Cloverfield+Rifftrax=Great, however, Cloverfield-Rifftrax=Crap!

I purchased a copy of Cloverfield a couple days ago, and I’m regretting it, it’ only watchable with Mike, Kevin, and Bill providing commentary, otherwise, it’s a thoroughly bad film, bad as in unwatchably irritating

lets see, on the plus side we have;
A Giant Monster trashing a city
Smaller, but no less deadly parasites attacking the city dwellers (even though the parasites do bear an uncanny resemblance (and sound) to the Arachnid Warrior Bugs from Starship Troopers)

On the minus side we have
motion-sickness inducing camera work
thoroughly unsympathetic, annoying main characters
a monster that changes scale from shot-to-shot
a monster who’s skin seems to be made of Depleted Uranium and is capable of shrugging off high-explosive missile attacks (must’ve made his saving throws Vs. high-explosives…)
and thoroughly annoying, unsympathetic main characters that I couldn’t care less about, I was actually rooting for Clover and the Parasites (Band Name!) the whole time

If you have to watch Cloverfield, do yourself a favor, go to rifftrax dot com and pick up the Cloverfield riff, it makes the movie so much better, not that they have much to work with, admittedly, heck, I’d rather watch Manos or the Star Wars Holiday Special than Cloverfield…

Cloverfield+Rifftrax; 8.75 out of 10
Cloverfield sans Rifftrax; 1 out of 10 (the one point is given simply for the Cloverfield monster itself)

Well I can’t imagine watching Cloverfield on a TV. That was made for a huge screen.

But yeah, it sucked and boy it was clearly made by people almost completly unfamilar with NYC.
