My dad is a diehard Republican who is content to overlook Trump’s glaringly obvious flaws because FoxNews has convinced him that Republicans have a corner on truth and goodness, and everyone else is EVIL.
Whenever I say that I saw something on CNN, he dismisses it because it’s from the “Communist News Network.”
I’d love to come up with a clever nickname for FOX, but so far am coming up empty. It’s the damn “x.” And while it’s very easy to come up with an “F” word, I’d prefer not to use the obvious f word, because I have more civility than my “Grab them by the pussy” President.
I like that, but I might change it to Fascist Old Extremists because xenophobe might not have the same sting because I’d have to tell my dad what “xenophobe” means.
There isn’t a valid source of news your dad is going to accept if it contradicts his Fox-induced bubble of nonsense, and no stupid little playground epithets are going to change that. I don’t have any advice to improve your angle of attack - it’s the same situation I’m in with my step-father.
Luckily, there are dozens of other topics that we are both interested in that don’t revolve around politics. I’d try to make a point of changing the subject and finding a topic that you both come away from in a better mood than you started.
You may as well keep it short and simple. “Fakes News” will do, and you can even pretend that’s how you thought it was actually pronounced. Adding more complexity doesn’t improve the situation.
