coachella 2005, Warning: have clean underwear handy

Have fun, whoever’s going! The Raveonettes are playing here in Orlando in May and Rilo Kiley is coming in June, so I’m sure I’ll see all the bands I wanted to see eventually.

Set times

I changed my mind and renounce my previous post! I am now completely excited about going to Coachella!

If you’re looking for a better copy of the schedule, this PDF has everything layed out by set time so you can see exactly who is playing where and when. Print a copy and bring it, you’ll be glad you did.

Any suggestions for stuff I simply MUST see? I’m still kicking myself for missing Kraftwerk last year. My friend was tired and I didn’t realize what I was missing out on when I said we could head out a little bit early.

Also, if you see me, say hi! I’ll be the only guy in the whole place wearing a mixswap.net t-shirt. I’m Conor.

If you feel like checking out some hip-hop, these are the ones I’d reccomend.

I could never go to one of these festivals because I’m a hip-hop snob who really doesn’t listen to anything else, and even though I REALLY wanna see these shows, it’s not worth all the other stuff there. I know, I know. I’m pathetic. I’m happy though.

Hmm. Bookbuster has one post, and that one is a link to a music festival, back in January? I’m going to declare this to be an advertisement, in violation of our rules. OTOH, since a number of members have responded, I’ll leave the thread.

One post, besides the other one in this thread and the other 192 in mostly music-related threads?

The OP hardly seems like an advertisement. More like a FYI from someone who enjoys music and wanted to share.

I have no idea who Bookbuster is, but IMO this looks like a bad call.

But how will this affect the Carrot Festival?

Still bruised and battered from my car accident, I bravely traveled the 20 or so miles from home to Coachella yesterday. Mr. Beckwall rented a wheelchair for me, and I put a sign on the back that said Weezer Geezer on Board. The weather was unbelievably perfect. Not as crowded as last year. Perfect strangers
(OK, mostly men) stopped to ask if I needed to be pushed anywhere or if they could help in any way. I was definitely a sad picture, soft cervical collar and bruises all over my arms. Kinda like Courtney Love, without the drugs. Anyway, Mr. Beckwall got to go into the smaller tents and I stayed near the big stage. We saw Keane (good), Wilco (great), Weezer (OMG), Bauhaus (was that lead singer actually hanging upside down for the entire first song? that’s what I call talent), and Coldplay (very good way to wind back down).

Unfortunately, Mr. Beckwall has to work today. Me, I’m gonna read the paper and take 2 naps. Hoping that others will check in here and report about the smaller venues and alternative bands.

beckwall, I’m so glad you were able to get there and see the show, and that being on wheels didn’t get in your way.

Hm. I seem to have blown it, and I’m not sure what or why. With apologies to bookbuster, I’ll get it fixed shortly.

It was my first concert ever and it was an AMAZING experience despite a bunch of mishaps and horrible things that happened. I can’t wait to go again next year!!

Arcade Fire was my favorite of the concerts I saw followed by NiN, Coldplay, Faint and Weezer.

kimera, Arcade Fire was my favorite too. It so fun to see a band with that many members and unique instruments perform and have it sound really good. Bloc Party were the most pre-hyped band I heard about but I was disappointed because it was just nothing really special. Arcade Fire just blew me away. Dresden Dolls were probably a close second. I hadn’t heard of them before but I loved the performance. Fun stuff.

The Arcade Fire were amazing. I spent the whole weekend hyping them up to my friend and they did not disappoint. I thought I was going to die during NIN but near the front where I was, everyone sort of settled down after the first few songs.

As much as I love New Order, NIN and Prodigy, the climax of Coachella was The Arcade Fire set.

For anyone who was camping, our tent was about five feet from the giant teepee. Don’t think that we didn’t think it was going to crush during one of those windy nights.

25 bands in 2 days, running ourselves ragged, losing 7 pounds in a week. I honestly cannot wait until next year and the possibility of coming again.

P.S. Saturday was good too. Shame about having to choose between Coldplay and the Chemical Brothers.

I like Coldplay, but Coldplay vs. Chemical Brothers was an easy choice for me…the Chemical Brothers put on such an amazing show, there was no way I was gonna miss them.

That is what I want to know, not that I would suffer through the rest of those bands just to see them or anything. My old cassette tapes will suffice when I need that rare Bauhaus fix.

We were set up right near the entrance which was a bad idea since we didn’t get as much shade as everyone else. I saw several tents that had been completely blown away. Next time I am bringing a cooler and putting it in my tent.

I saw Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake. I mistook Cameron for my friend and almost said hi to her before I realized my mistake. :o
