Have you tried this new concoction yet?
It’s Coke with the effervescence of coffee (I think that means coffee flavor but no real coffee).
So, I like coffee. Coffee hot, coffee candy, coffee ice cream, cold coffee drinks.
And I like Coke every now and then.
So I thought this might be okay.
While not terrible it’s not that great. It tastes like one of two things. Either someone dumped some Coke in my almost empty coffee cup that has gotten cold since this morning, or someone took someone’s leftover coffee that went cold from this morning and dumped it into my Coke. Either way it kind of shocks you at first with a “Blecchh!”
Not something worth drinking on a regular basis but something to try just to see what it’s like.
Really? I like it quite a bit.
I got in trouble with the local Safeway for trying to buy out their stock, actually - they have it on promotion at fifty cents a bottle, but you’re not allowed to buy more than four (or four packs of four) at a time. They didn’t say anything about that limit, though, and I had to take up about an hour of their manager’s time when they overbilled me.
But yeah, my first impression was like yours - it’s not a particularly strong coffee flavor and it’s not a combination you’d expect to work well - but it grew on me.
I bought a four-pack last week because Safeway had if for two bucks. I agree with this assessment:
Plus, you’d think they’d crank up the caffeine in that drink. I substituted it for my first cup of coffee one morning. It did nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Interestingly enough, unless you read the ingredients, there’s no way to tell it’s a Coke/coffee drink. I’m not sure what to make of that.
A friend showed up at a party last weekend with some; she was in search of the right kind of booze to mix it with in order for it to be drinkable. She was ultimately unsuccessful, in her opinion.

As this was at a post-revel at Coronation, the Queen of Northshield has banished this drink from the royal presence for the duration of her reign.

Hmm. I seem to be distinctly in the minority here.
Time to go to Safeway and stock up in 16-bottle increments (they made me return my whole order and re-check-out with only 16 bottles, damn).
The little item in the newspaper said it had more caffeine than a Coke®, but less than a cup of coffee.
Pepsi already beat this one to death a few years ago. Anybody else remember Pepsi Kona?
I like my cola and my coffee to happen at different times of day.
Interesting! I noticed it at Safeway, but I don’t like Coke so I only took a quick look at the bottle: the impression I got was that it was being touted as an “energy” drink … I had no idea that it’s a Coke/coffee hybrid.
Actually, it’s “Coke effervescense with coffee essence.”
Bleugh - tastes ok for the first few seconds, then there’s a coffee aftertaste. Not liking it…
What they don’t tell you unless you look carefully, is that it is diet coke and coffee.
It tastes like flat coke and not enough coffee. I tried to mix my own, and it tasted much better than Coke Blak.
Why do soft drinks have to keep adding new flavors? it used to be they tasted and sold fine on their own. Now its some bizarre contest to use new flavors and beat the competition.
Coke is fine all by itself.
We see orange, cherry, vanilla, cinnamon, creme berry 9all) added. Dumb idea.
This can only end badly with such flavors as sour cream potato chip Coke, etc.
If somebody from a soft drink company sees that, they’ll be in the boss’ office tomorrow trying to pitch “their” idea.
Actually, they tried it even earlier with Pepsi AM.
It’s like the Jason of soft drinks!
I tried it, and mildly enjoyed it. Kind of like a carbonated frappucino, without the cream, in my opinion. I didn’t taste much coke. Not something I’d drink everyday, but maybe if I’m in the mood for something different.
Dr. Pepper Berry & Cream, on the other hand… mmmm.
In my opinion, the sour cream potato chip flavor would best contrast with something lighter. Perhaps 7-Up, or Sprite. Barbeque, however, would go perfectly with Coke.
I did look carefully, and noticed the aspartame. Of course, since the second ingredent is high fructose corn syrup, I’m not sure how diet it’s supposed to be. Seeing the HFCS, and caffeine, I too assumed it was some sort of energy drink. I forgot to look at how many calories though, and I didn’t care enough to make the effort to find out after I had moved on from the display.
By the way, anyone else getting the Airplane! scene stuck in their heads reading this thread:
“I like my men the way I like my coffee. . .”
GES
True, I dont think its low calorie at all, so I don’t think its avtually bing marketed as such, It just tastes like diet Coke, which I find awful.
45 calories, if I recall correctly.
Just had one this morning for the first time. Very, very good over a glass of ice. I like it, but probably won’t continually pay that much for it ($5 a 4 pack).
Look, if y’all like coffee and y’all like soda, stop putzing about with fancy-schmancy Cokes and such and rush right out and get yourself a bottle of Manhattan Special espresso soda. It’s black, it’s sweet, it’ll make you jumpy and give you palpitations – it’s perfect!
