Coldie does Cali!

Diane? Shayna? Jillgat? Countless other females? Kegger?

AAARRRRRRGGGHHHH!!! I HAVE NO MONEY!!!
AAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHH!!!

NOOOOO!!!

[sub]damn… [/sub]

Okaaaaay, but you get to clean up the mess. Howzat, Diarrhea?

Twisty, maybe you could start a “Send Twisty to the States” fund and make all your friends and relatives contribute. You just gotta come! Waaaaah

What about the Ports O’Call restaurant in San Pedro? It’s been years since I’ve been there, so I have no idea what the current state is down there, I think there are a few places in the village that have banquet-ish facilities. The old El Paso Cantina (I think it’s an Acapulco or something cheesey now?) has a great patio space on the water.

Flights officially booked. Woo!

I’ve faxed Budget 9 Motel re: prices and availability (budget is all, folks), but have yet to hear back.

Went to the bank, got finances sorted - it’s all looking more peachy now.

Twisty - we have no money either - come anyway! Work like a slave and come!

Twisty, if you don’t come them whom “go neiri an bothar leat, a stór”? (or something like that)

Shiterina - Hell with that! That’s why we’re letting men come to this thing, right? To clean up?

Funny, I thought the reason we were letting women come to this thing was so they could get us our beer (and perhaps enjoy a little slap on the ass while they’re at it).

I have a few ideas for a place that might work, but you will need to see if they are available.

Pancho’s Restaurant
3615 Highland Ave
Manhattan Beach, CA 90266
(310) 545-6670

El Torito Restaurant
100 Fishermans Wharf
Redondo Beach, CA 90277
(310) 376-0547

Belmont Brewing
25 39th Pl
Long Beach, CA 90803
(562) 433-3891

Although you might object to going as far as Long Beach, but if you have never been to Belmost Brewing you should go. The tables are outside and you overlook the beach and the Long Beach pier.

El Torito is right on the pier and I know they have banquet rooms that overlook the ocean.

Pancho’s doesn’t overlook the ocean (even though it is right next to it) but it has some great ambience as well as some decent Mexican food. A little more money at night so you will have to see about the prices. I eat there during the week where we get a two for one price because of work.

Or we could just do the Olive Garden at the corner of Sepulveda and Marine. They have areas for groups.

Of course the above are only suggestions, so if you find a better place go for it.

I only said “maybe” because I can’t say for sure that far in the future. (It’s three months!) It’s got nothing to do with any feud with SPOOFE or anyone else.

I dunno Strainger, if I recall a certain photo correctly, you make quite the sweet lil’ lady. Maybe we’ll get you to serve the beer and be on the receiving end of a fanny slap.

All righty. Fran has her Disney tix - I have a couple of others up for grabs. Any takers? It also occurs to me that I work during the week right near John Wayne airport in Orange County - if anyone is using that airport, let me know and I can pick you up. [sub]Another Mustang convertible. Hi, Deb![sub]

slackergirl, I was at Ports’O’Call about a month ago - they are having some financial troubles, and the whole mall is sadly run down. Too bad, since it used to be loads of fun.

Redondo Beach is one of my old haunts - let me think for a while about banquet rooms. (Is the Admiral Risty in PV still around? Over near the lighthouse on the cliffs?)

Crap. I thought I hit preview. Sorry for the little teeny post.

Well, Diane, if the Doper ladies would like to slap my fanny while I serve them beer, I’d be happy to oblige.

Too bad about San Pedro, I heard that a lot of it has gone down hill since I moved away. The Admiral Risty was a cool place too, I have no idea if it’s still there - PV Drive South and Hawthorne(???) or something?

What about the Cheesecake Factory in Marina Del Rey?

They don’t have banquet facilities. :frowning:

I was kindof hoping to find someplace that killed several birds with one stone…

[li]Close enough so the out-of-towners don’t have huge taxi fares getting to and from the night out.[/li][li]Close to a good “party” area for drinking/bar-hopping after dinner. I thought the Hermosa Beach, Pier Avenue walk street area would’ve been perfect for that.[/li][li]Large enough to accomodate a group the size of ours - which may mean they’d have to have banquet facilities. The girl at TCF told me noplace will reserve a “table for 40” in their restaurant unless we pay in advance, but she could be wrong, I don’t know.[/li][li]Reasonably priced so those on tight budgets can afford it.[/li]
deb, I’ll check into those places you listed, especially El Torito. We had our last Dopefest there and they did a great job accomodating us (we had about 22, or so people), the food was great and the service pretty good, too. I didn’t realize they had a banquet room, so I’ll call them and find out if it’s available for either night that weekend.

Would any of the local dopers have any objection to going back to El Torito? At least we all know how to find it now, right?

seawitch, unfortunately The Admiral Risty “is available Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm to accommodate 150 guest for sit-down luncheons and 200 guest for cocktails and hors d’oeuvre,” which doesn’t really fit our schedule.

Keep those suggestions coming.

Checking in

I’m still so sad I missed the weekend in SLO, I’ve just gotta try to get to this one!

Put me down for a definite yes!

[sub]Of course, unless I can’t make it.[/sub]

No banquet rooms - I just phoned. :frowning:

Heh, I just realized where Pancho’s is - right across from my old hang-out, Harry O’s. I’m on the phone with them right now. The woman who answered said they have banquet facilities and it’s available both nights. Now she put me on with the manager who is saying they don’t have an actual room, but they could accomodate a party of our size, we just might be kindof separated (?). I’m not sure I understood his description of how he’d seat us - something about 3 stairs separating 30 people from the other 10. I guess I’d have to see it.

Wow, lookit that! 40 people? Who would have thought!

This is looking great, guys! And a big “Thank You!” goes out to the locals, who are obviously spending a lot of time planning things like a dinner venue. Fantastic!!

Ladies with Mustang Convertibles offering rides??

Am I in heaven?

What about Knott’s Berry Farm? I’m sure the Chicken Dinner Restaurant has a banquet room (though I don’t know if it would be available on a weekend). And they have other things on the menu besides fried chicken. It’s also quite affordable.

I guess I don’t understand how El Torito or Cheesecake Factory works for individual events. But I have been to both for banquet events for work. I went to a retirement dinner at El Torito that obviously was in a banquet room. And there is banquet room upstairs in Cheesecake Factory. Maybe you can only get them for weddings, retirement, holiday parties?

Hey Coldie would you like to get married. We could get a faux minister and us women could fight over your affections. That would get us a banquet facility.
