I have a boot box full of postcards from my Aunt. She gave them to me before she died.
My mother was a prolific letter writer. I have letters she wrote to all her siblings when she was young married and following my Daddy to different duty stations.
She also sent many post cards.
The thing I like about them are her very tiny neat cursive, the subject of the note and/or the picture on the front.
It’s funny, if she ran out of room for her thought she’d go around the margin of the card. She got a lot said in that one long curvy sentence. I love that.
So…flash forward a couple years and I frequented flea markets and junk stores. Always found some paper ephemera. I looked for post cards. Always looking for that card from a person needing more room to finish their thought, and another sentence go on a trip around the card. Really excited if I found writing on the front of the cards
Cannot believe the information people put on them, for all to see. Did they think it was private?
My favorite is a white index card with a black and red ink pen. Starting in the center going around in a concentric circle, expressing his undying love for what apparently was his girlfriend. Had a heart postage stamp.
There are the the folks who wrote the whole body of the note on an angle. Or cute hand drawn pictures.
There was a mysterious series of cards I found folded in a magazine in a brown envelope. It’s stamped numbers. Not machine stamped, hand stamped. They are 5 cent pp cards. All are postmarked, so mailed to someone who saved them. I have decided it was mail chess game. Or similiar.
Anyway, that’s my weird collection.
