We’re just a little over a month away from football season. Time to get some chatter going. To kick things off, here is the SEC 2010 Football Schedule.
Big non-conference games that jump out at me:
September 11: Bama at home against Penn State.
Oregon at Tennessee
September 18: Clemson at Auburn
September 25: W. Va at LSU
October 2: Georgia at Colorado
October 9: Texas A&M at Arkansas
Of course, all of the traditional conference games are there, too. As an extra special bonus, Florida plays at Bama this year. Whoever loses that game may not make the SEC Championship, which could open the door for some new blood at the top…
I’ll go ahead and go on record as predicting an unprecedented fifth consecutive SEC/BCS champion. Really don’t see any reason to actually play a BCS game. They ought to just send the trophy to the winner of the SEC Championship.
When we petitioned our AD to schedule some more difficult OOC games this year, this wasn’t exactly what we had in mind Play some top-25 opponents, sure. Play the defending national champions at their place? Yikes.
Although the 1982 MNC Penn State team did lose to Alabama early in the season, so maybe JoePa thinks there’s a potential for a repeat.
Oh man, this home-and-home is going to be wonderful. As a Tide fan, I have nothing but respect and admiration for JoePa and the Nittany Lions. I’m very much looking forward to tailgating with Penn State fans in Tuscaloosa, and I really want to try to make it to Happy Valley next year. Two old-school powerhouses getting together and doing it up right for a couple of years? Yessir, more please!
My dad has a theory that if you’re an underdog hoping for an upset, your best shot is early in the season. I think it’s a ballsy move to schedule that game on the road for Penn State, but it could pay off huge. If they do get the upset, they’re in the driver’s seat for the rest of the way.
It’ll be a great game for fans of college football no matter what happens.
Bama and Penn State?
Wow… didn’t know about that.
That is a gutsy move for both programs.
Kudos.
UGA fan here; I bleed Red and Black.
I can only hope that our freshman QB Aaron Murray will be competent.
My prediction is 9-3 with losses to Florida, Auburn and <gulp> Ga Tech.
Colorado could also beat us.
Agreed. Fact is Huskers vs the rest of the conference is going to be pretty good. They’ve finally started climbing out of the suckage they been in for several years, they’re fired up and want to go out on top so they can play with the big boys in the Big 10 next year.
My team is Mississippi State. I think the deal is, first 10 guys to the stadium put their names in a hat. Whoever has their name picked gets to start at QB that week. Tough road to bowl eligibility for the Bulldogs. 4 non-conference games and the Egg Bowl, but we still have to beat another SEC team and we don’t play Vanderbilt this year…
My loyalties are split 50% Auburn and 25% each for Vandy and UTenn. All I can say at this stage is that I hope things break their way in the big games.
Vandy is close to doomed with the loss of the head coach this close to season start, but I can’t claim that’s going to make a big difference! A bowl would be nice.
All I can really hope for is an Iron Bowl win for AU! War Eagle!
Whatever else happens, The SEC needs to keep the ball rolling with the BCS. I agree with
Yes, I’ve got to say I was thrilled when I saw that the old rivalry between Penn State and Alabama was starting again. I have so many great memories from my childhood days of watching those two teams collide.
And if you’re headed up to State College next year, then you’ll have to ask me about all the Penn State hangouts. And bring BBQ when you tailgate! Penn State’s tailgate party is the best in the country IMHO, but no BBQ in sight!
I am going to really disappointed if my satellite provider does not offer me the Rhode Island vs Buffalo and the Fort Lewis vs Montana St games on pay per view.
