College Football 2011 Preseason Thread

From the linked list:

ETA: As for Cam, I see him and his flash at Auburn as a once-in-a-generation, if not once-in-a-lifetime, phenomenon unlikely to be repeated. If we do see somebody do in a single season what Cam did, regardless of at which school, it will be seen as a fluke and illegal and a subject of lasting hatred and spite.

Wisconsin picked up a new Quarterback from NC State. I don’t know too much about him, but some folks (som, not all) are saying he is the difference for Wisconsin this year and makes them a a favorite in ther Big 10 Division.

Plus we have an awesome running game.

I am just wondering which winnable game we will lose and thus take us out of any NC talk.

Kind of my point. Lets assume for a second that Auburn boosters were paying for athletes to attend Auburn. Why would they invest any money in a rejected QB from Florida who was generally regarded as “damaged goods”? There is no way way Urban Meyer and the Florida staff would have let him go, (let alone go to another SEC school), if they thought the kid could was good enough to lead a team to a Nat’l Championship while winning a Heisman Trophy.

To be fair, who was in front of him? And I thought he was leaving Florida due to academic issues when he went to a juco.

For those who like to try to make sense of the preseason polls, a good source for how last year’s efforts developed is at

An early version of 2011’s is at

But the best collection of this year’s polls that I have been able to locate is the one at

with an in-progress version to examine at

The 2011 Coaches Poll will be released Thursday 8/4/11 at 11 a.m. ET.

This year UCF joins Boise State, BYU et al among the ranks of mid-major teams contending for BCS berths.

Who is going to be playing quarterback, exactly? Ponder has taken every snap for the last, like, 8 years.

No, he was suspended for stealing a laptop.

This is very sad: Two Georgia HS boys have died, probably as a direct result of practicing football.

As much as I like football (college mostly), I can not help but think if football was regulated like OSHA regulated industry, it would be shut down pretty quickly. There are deaths, and crippling injuries

Doesn’t some state have a mandatory time-out halfway through each quarter for games in August and September so the players can take in fluids? (I thought it was Georgia, but the Georgia state high school website does not include it in its football rules. If it was Georgia, they need to consider bringing it back.)

Well, cupcake may be too strong a word, but yeah, I think we handle Miami fairly easily. Golden looks to be doing the right thing, but the talent pool is shallow down there right now.

Well, except for those 4 starts EJ had year before last (going 3-1) and the 2 last year (2-0). From what I’m hearing EJ is kicking ass in practice.

In other news, looks like we got Jameis Winston, the #1 QB prospect for next year! Go 'Noles!

Roll Tide!

Steve Spurrier must have lost (or given up) his voting rights. Duke didn’t get a honorable mention vote.

He appears on this list:

That’s strange, Duke used to always got a one vote preseason vote. Spurrier giving some respect to Duke, his first head coaching job in college. I guess he quit doing that.

His name is Zach Mettenburger.. he’s a big white kid with a gun for an arm (lefty) and as soon as Les Miles (LSU) gets his head out of his ass and sits Jordan Jefferson the tigers go undefeated and maul either UGA or USC in the georgia dome.. and the SEC makes it what.. six years in a row..

Big ten born.. and I can totally acknowledge that college ball begins and ends in the SEC..

There is some twitter rumors and rumblings about current Bama QB Trent Richardson signing memorabilia at a Tuscaloosa Suit Store. The rumors are from SportsByBrookswhose does not have a whole lot of credibility with me.

Richardson is RB, not QB.

I did say that they did not have much credibility with me. See tweet from 42 minutes ago. at about 12:30 pm cdt.
