This has to be the flabbergasting story of CFB 2010: WTF Happened to Texas?
True, Denard may put butts in the bleachers, so a 6-6 U-M team will likely get a semi-decent bowl. I think they have a good chance to beat Purdue, I really can’t see them beating Illinois (very underrated team, IMHO), and no way do they beat OSU or Wisconsin. 6-6 is their most likely outcome, 5-7 isn’t out of the question, 7 wins is NOT going to happen.
Even as a Spartan fan, I hope RichRod is told to take a long walk on a short pier. The guy is a whore and you can’t win with a pick like that. If he fails, you stink. If he succeeds, he grabs a pile of money somewhere else.
I have a bad feeling the Badgers will get screwed out of a BCS bowl this year just like in 2006? Then again, if Barry would scehdule at least one decent out of conference game…
I must say, having watched the Oregon-USC game this week, I am pleasantly surprised to see that Oregon lives up to the hype. That offense is scary good (although I can’t help feeling the pistol set looks wrong).
Sense of entitlement and years of karma. Crazily, the exact same thing is happening at the pro level up in Dallas.
That is precisely the reason why Auburn got screwed out the BCS game in 2004.
They were undefeated that year, along with Oklahoma and USC.
Auburn was the odd team out.
Non-conference schedules that year:
Auburn: La Tech, La Monroe, The Citadel
Oklahoma: Bowling Green, Houston, Oregon
USC:VA Tech, Notre Dame, Colorado St, BYU
Auburn is my favorite team in the SEC, but they deserved to be the odd team out that year. (in a two team playoff).
there are some posters here who think Wins are the only thing that matter in order to go to the BCS game. If Auburn had played some real OOC teams in 2004, they might have gone on to lose by 36 points to USC instead of Oklahoma.
That certainly seems to be part of it. In a very, and very uncharacteristically, heated post-game post game interview after the Iowa State loss, Mack Brown said he’d been worried because leading up to the game, he’d seen a lot of standing around and general cockiness.
Not that I hate the Horns or anything, but I hope this is part of it. It’s been frustrating- and I readily admit the frustration is borne of pure jealousy- to watch as, year in and year out, with different quarterbacks, different receivers, different everybody, UT would ALWAYS win these big games with thrilling come-from-behind wins. It was like no 4th-quarter lead was ever safe against them. Both of their victories against my Buckeyes came this way, as did the huge win for the National Championship against USC, as did all sorts of others. I commented to my wife on Saturday that in years past, I would have looked at the score of the Baylor game, with the Longhorns trailing by 11 halfway through the 4th quarter, and said “Game’s in the bag. UT wins.” It wasn’t that I wanted UT to lose as much as I was wondering why the football gods treated them so favorably, when it seemed like Ohio State and most other teams lost these types of games about as often as they won them.
Also, there’s the fact that Mack Brown installed a new, more balanced offense, but it isn’t a type that Garrett Gilbert is particularly familiar or comfortable with, even now. And, if you’re going to rely more on the running game, it would behoove you to actually have a standout running back or two, which Texas doesn’t. Why they don’t is certainly a legitimate WTF question. So is the question of why the defense (touted by Mack Brown at the beginning of the season as maybe his best ever) is so bad.
This may explain the most inexplicable part of the season: how could they lose to UCLA (truly an awful team) and beat Nebraska? A: They cared about the Nebraska game.
The long wait is over. The bye week is done. My prediction for this week:
Badgers 37 Purdue 17.
I hope Bret Bielema has a large collection of tennis balls that he throws at players who talk about the BCS standings, the new bar that doesn’t card athletes or pretty girls, Cheerleaders, or anything except the immediate upcoming opponent. Michigan State got complacent and were bitch-slapped by Iowa last week. Please, Badgers, don’t let that happen to you this week!!!
Well Michigan avoids a third straight losing season despite every ineptitude their defense could throw against it.
ummm, Yay?
For those of us without a dog in the fight, that sure was a hoot to watch. Football is more fun when nobody’s playing defense.
Colorado, who hasn’t won a conference road game in three years, was leading at Kansas 45-17 in the fourth quarter. They lost 52-45. Mrs. Hawkins, I’d bring the dogs inside.
The Badgers will move up at least one spot with Utah getting clobbered by TCU. LSU is giving Alabama all they can handle as well, so that could be another team to leap.
Looks like JoePa is about to win 400. Although NWestern is driving now. I don’t know what happened. PSU was losing 21-0 when I fell asleep. When I woke up they had just scored and it was 28-21.
It isn’t over yet though - it is now 35-21, but NWestern is driving and there is 10 minutes on the clock.
U of Ms defense is a little weak.
They will play basketball games this year with lower scores.
This win makes then bowl eligible.
Alabama is losing. They will get dumped well out of top 10 after this game.
PSU stopped NWestern and drove to mid field. There is about 5 minutes on the clock and PSU is up 35-21.
That’s it. 400. A heck of a game. Congratulations Joe Paterno.
I wonder how bad CBS beat ABC’s game when CBS had LSU/BAMA and ABC had regional coverage. (my area had PSU/NU).
