College football fans: how's your team look?

Heh. Yes, just a little…

Next year might be fun though.

Maybe. Depending on how the BCS rankings shake out, a close OU win over the Cowboys might still have OSU winning a three way tie with OU and TAMU.

UCF is ranked in the top 25 (in the AP and USA Today polls) for the first time ever! Unfortunately, the computers don’t like us very much (ranking us in the forties), so no BCS ranking yet.

Well, I think that’s how it would play out. OSU’s loss would be fresh on the voters minds and the game is in Stillwater this year. Of course, we’ve got Texas Tech and Baylor to worry about first.

Wow, I thought for sure Missouri would drop out of the top 25 after their loss at Texas Tech. They got two early touchdowns off long running plays (about 70 yards each), but after that, no appreciable offense for the rest of the game. They only converted one third down in the entire game, for cryin’ out loud! Missouri just made mistake after mistake, let the Tech offense march over them for three unanswered touchdowns, and gave us a win I never thought we’d get. Go Red Raiders!

Indiana comes to Madison tomorrow.

Badgers 42 Hoosiers 13.

I am really tired about the Boise State whining, but there offense is a well-oiled machine. But even well oiled machines would run better without any resistance.

Boise is whipping rival Idaho. 28-0 after one quarter.

You only missed the Badgers score by 41 points, did a little better with Indiana’s score, missed it by 7 points.

The Beavs have the toughest schedule in the country, but UW, UCLA, and WSU were supposed to be the easy part. Now it’s likely they will lose to all three. Coming up is USC, Stanford, and UO. They haven’t looked this bad since I went there. It’s likely they won’t be bowling this year.

Come on, its not like Boise’s strength of schedule is that bad. Yes, it is bad. But it isn’t like the WAC is a Division II conference. And Boise put together a solid non-conference schedule. Sagarin ranks them as 72nd for schedule currently. But let’s take a quick look at some of the AQ FBS teams with similar or worse strength of schedules shall we?

Wisconsin - 70th (Big 10)
Michigan State - 71st (Big 10)
Georgia Tech - 74th (ACC)
Louisville - 75th (Big East)
Maryland - 77th (ACC)
Connecticut - 78th (Big East)
Virginia Tech - 80th (ACC)
Syracuse - 83rd (Big East)
West Virginia - 84th (Big East)
Ohio State - 87th (Big 10)
Indiana - 93rd (Big 10)

Now imagine that any of these teams were undefeated, leading their conference, and winning by an average of over 36 points a game. Say Ohio State for example, wouldn’t they be going to the championship game? Oh, yeah until they lost at Wisconsin they were. How come strength of schedule only seems to be mentioned when a non-AQ team is involved?

Utah ,Boise’s, big rival got their horns honked by a bad Notre Dame team. Check Boise’s strength of schedule rating later. That is what was predicted. Boise would slowly drop from their starting level as the schedule plays out.

Actually it is TCU’s rival. But TCU and Boise are slowly expected to drop as the weakness of schedule becomes clearer.

What the heck happened to PSU? They were up 14-10 when I went to dinner. They pretty much had been dominating the Buckeyes. Then next I saw it was 28-14 or something like that.

Yeah… Utah has been pretty badly exposed the last few weeks. They escaped with wins vs their only previous solid opponents (Pitt and Air Force), but TCU just destroyed them. They are looking more and more like they will be a middle of the pack team when they get in the PAC next year, rather than an immediate contender.

And Boise’s strength of schedule shouldn’t drop too much off their current level. They face “also receiving votes” Fresno next week and (21) Nevada the week after. Both of which should serve to bump up the SoS, only to have it dropped back to around the current level when they demolish Utah State. But I will be interested to see what happens in the final SoS rankings. It’s too bad Sagarin doesn’t seem to keep a weekly archive, it would be interesting to plot that change from week to week.

I’ve never been more happy to be wrong!

Aaaaaand, the Texas disintegration continues. At least this time it was a loss to a good team.

The thing about that ever-more-mysterious win over Nebraska is that Nebraska dropped THREE wide-open touchdown passes in that game. Those stone hands of the Huskers receiving corps are the only thing at this point standing between Texas and a 7-game losing streak. Also, elimination from bowl eligibility. Probly happen against the Aggies anyway.

I am so proud of my sturdy Golden Bears; at least, the defensive portion. They absolutely stuffed the ustoppable Oregon offense, holding them to a single TD (another TD on a punt return). If the Bears had any offense they’d have won that game.

Your faith in Texas’s ability to beat Florida Atlantic is impressive.

BCS is out and Oregon and Auburn are a natural number 1 game. Then Boise and TCU. They should each play a team from the next grouping which would include Wisconsin, Stanford, Ohio State, and Alabama. I would like to see that.
