Colored Apple Computers from Colorware—Any Good?

In this thread, someone mentioned Colorware, which is a company that sells “colorized” Apple products (and products from some other companies, too). Want an emerald green iBook or a candy apple red PowerBook? They make ’em. They do iPods, too.

My question is: How do they do it? Do they paint them somehow? Or do they replace the cases with colored plastic cases? If they do paint them, is there much chance of the paint chipping or peeling or something? Beacuse, man, I’d be pissed if I spent a bunch of extra money on one just to have the paint start chipping off a month after I got it. Also, if they paint them, does that hinder the computer’s ability to release heat?

They give a one-year warranty on the finish. If they’re offering this on an iPod that gets handled, dropped, scuffed and whatnot all day long, I’d like to think this is some seriously durable color.

I can’t see how it would affect the computer’s ability to dissapate heat. As long as they don’t clog up the vents and block airflow, it should be fine.

this reviewer has had no troubles with the colorware ipod, and it seems very durable - no scratches after 3 months
