About three years ago I used to post on the SDMB as “Baloo”. In the intervening time, my computer took a dive and I could not afford to replace it. I was fired from a job where I had computer access, and subsequently forgot just about any passwords I ever knew (I had copies of them all on the HD of my old computer, but…).
Except for the pay cut, getting fired from that job was the best thing that could have happened to me at the time. The first briefing we were given by the boss boiled down to “New Mexico is a ‘right to work’ state. This means we can hire you for any reason and we can fire you for any reason.” I suspect they fired me along with several others because we were coming up on the one-year mark and they didn’t want to give us benefits – I would not be surprised to learn that they already had our replacements lined up before the firings began. I was number four in the lineup and several others followed, and there were only about 30 of us to begin with. I heard that fewer than half of the original crowd remained only a few months after my departure.
But I digress.
Last November my sister sent me her old computer (she got a new one) and about a month ago I finally got back on line. When I returned to the SDMB, I looked to see how I could get my old password and the instructions said they’d email the information to my registered email address. My old email addy no longer exists, so I just registered a new account as SSgtBaloo and didn’t think anything about it until someone brought something to my attention that I had completely forgotten – registering multiple accounts at the SDMB is strictly verboten – it can get you banned.
Someone else was kind enough to help me find Lynn Bodoni’s email address so I could plead guilty and throw myself upon the mercy of the court. For the time being, I am in a sort of limbo. I don’t know if I’ll be banned, continue my existence as SSgtBaloo or be busted down to plain old Baloo.
Just in case this is “it” and I’m banned (permanently or otherwise) this is your chance to say hello and/or goodbye depending on what seems most appropriate to you.
Thank you for your kind attention.
