Come on down, davidmich

Really, come on. I’m giving you an opportunity to post in a thread you haven’t started, because I’ve just done a quick search and unless I’ve overlooked one or done the search incorrectly, you’ve not not posted in any threads outside your own for a long time, if ever.

You didn’t even respond in this prior Pit thread. All the criticisms there are still valid.

Have you ever reported a post?

So come on and prove you’re not a lamebrain AI.

Glutton for punishment, eh?

If you look at that last thread, the one you linked to, I think you’ll see that the OP got properly skewered. The guy you are Pitting seems to be an eccentric who asks a lot of questions, some of which are… odd. No one is forcing you to read them, no one is forcing anyone else to answer, and there is no policy that says you have to give back what you get.

Personally, when I see his name on a thread I rarely open it.

I don’t normally read ‘his’ threads, but something triggered that search and I’m not sure that davidmich isn’t a bot. I have a vague feeling that’s been discussed before. At the very least, such behaviour is jerkish.

I do the opposite…I know that he won’t be participating in the thread, but he usually asks a moderately interesting question which other Dopers respond to with good info. The result is a good thread, even if davdimich himself is perhaps autistic.

Half the people who post here probably wouldn’t pass a Turing Test.

Once upon a time, I would read his threads. Now, I glance at the thread title and assess it as either “That’s a somewhat normal thing to not know about” or “That’s a weird thing to not know about.” I haven’t needed a third category.

There may not be a policy that says you have to give as well as take, but it’s a normal human thing to do. I support this pitting and the underlying AI issues it raises.

How does it make you feel that Half the people who post here probably wouldn’t pass a Turing Test?

Asking questions in General Questions is jerkish, now? This seems to be the main criticism.

Like the last pitting, this has to be one of the lamest ever.

If he’s a bot, he’d have tried to sell us something by now.

I don’t understand the word “feel”.

The few threads of his that I’ve bothered to read were about things that I don’t find interesting so now I don’t really pay any attention to him. My first instinct about him is that English is not his first language. It also crossed my mind also that’s he’s using the board to “do his homework for him”. I do think it’s basically social good manners to contribute something as opposed to just firing questions at people but that does not seem to be his way so I just let him be and move on to the next.

If I was going to go after someone for jerkish behavior in GQ, it would be this guy. Read the OP and then read post #12.

Of all the question currently on the front page in GQ, only a minority were started by people I recognize as making a substantial contribution to providing factual answers in that forum. A lot of people post to threads in GQ, but don’t actually contribute a lot of information. I’d rather have people refrain from posting on subjects they don’t know much about rather than post whatever pops into their heads just for the sake of posting.

One thing I will say for davidmich is that he at least comes back and participates in the threads he starts, which is more than I can say for a lot of people.

As the OP in question I approve this message.

Someday when David publish his Magnum Opus, all the questions he asked will come into focus as part of a mind-boggling synthesis of all human knowledge. Just you wait and see!

I concur with your last 2 sentences.

Just to make it clear to whomever, I don’t know that I’ve ever asked a question in GQ. I may have. Here is a link to the most recent one to which I was able to find an answer.

Note: I put the link in rather than make the word “here” be the link because when I make a word be a link (like the target in an href) on my iPhone, I get thrown out of the browser and logged off the board.

But ‘he’ is continually asking questions and not contributing one jot. Further, ‘he’ only seems to post in GQ, despite threads getting moved to other forums - ‘he’ never starts threads in other forums, apart from one thread started in ATMB (and that was a thread for GQ). I’ve yet to spot one thread where an actual conversation takes place between ‘him’ and another poster.

Hands up everyone who followed John Mace’s link just to see if they were the jerk.

Hand up!

Since we now have a mod in the thread, has davidmich ever PMed a mod? Has davidmich ever reported a post? If the answer to either or both is “No”, is not that atypical for a poster of his length of stay? Does that not strike you as odd?
