That’s a non sequitur. I don’t know if they drink more or less than some other demographic and I don’t care. I was correcting an analogy that had been disingenuously crafted to make the question seem more innocent. I corrected it by re-inserting the concept that lots of drinking/drugs were being done to cope with long hours. You obviously didn’t appreciate the difference.
By assuming that I’m trying to make some sort of bizarre point about construction workers and beer, you have reaffirmed my belief that you aren’t paying attention. In fact, I think you must be really, really dumb. Like Forest Gump, but without the loveable personality.
Relevant to what? The poster to whom I was replying said that the acceptance of various sexual orientations and sexual identities proves something about the Dope’s attitudes towards strippers. I didn’t specifically address that. I did address whether I think that said “acceptance” is overblown. And I did address whether I think that the Dope is accepting of strippers. I didn’t address whether the two really go hand in hand. I don’t need to if I don’t accept the basic idea that the Dope is “fine” with the different sexualities and gender issues in the first place.
Forget it jsgoddess. It is not worth the time to atomize such a minor side issue. I think my reading of your post was reasonable; you disagree. We’re just going to have to leave it there. It’s not a battle that is worth picking.
It makes me really impatient that people around here display the attitude that you can never ever make a judgment of another person’s behavior or choices, much less a “moral” judgment (God forbid!).
lobstermobster specifically said “people can choose to do whatever they want to do” and “[she] would never be rude or condescending to a stripper.” Nevertheless, LM cannot “respect what she’s chosen to do with her life in terms of earning a living.”
I don’t really want to add to Indygrrl’s perception that she’s been piled on by moving to a larger discussion of whether her personal job choices are universally worthy of respect. But the fact is that reasonable arguments can be made that such a choice is not the greatest one a young woman can make, either for herself or for society. That is a perfectly valid POV. Not every personal judgment is unreasonable or indefensible.
Okay. For what it’s worth, I don’t think your reading was shockingly unreasonable or anything. I haven’t worked out how I would categorize stripping and what things can reasonably be compared to it.
Actually I was referring to dragging things discovered about a poster into an unrelated thread. I have witnessed posters trash EC about his sexual preferences with absolutely no provocation whatsoever. I think that if you judge another posters actions to be so vile that you must attack them whenever the opportunity presents itself perhaps ignoring them would be the best course of action. By my way of thinking it seems a jerkish thing to do. Although as I’m kind of new to message board interaction I could be mistaken. I am, however, familiar with what it’s like to look into someones eye and say rude shit to them. I guess that’s why it seems so odd to me. I just don’t see a lot of what gets said here being said in RL. Oh well, live and learn.
I would normally agree with you, except Evil Captor is one of those posters who liked to bring up his alternative preferences in unrelated threads - there was no discovering about it (I don’t think he does this so much any more). If a poster wants to make a big deal about some aspect of their lives, they really don’t have much of a leg to stand on when other posters start noticing and calling them on it (either the thing they like to bring up or the fact that they’re bringing it up so frequently).
My asshat may be almost as massive as my real ass, but I’m not the one look like a total assclown in this thread. So continue, dear. I hear you get off of humiliation anyway, so I’m sure you’re loving this.
Holy crap, you guys! I’d hate to have to diagram who’s mad at whom in this thread. It’s like freakin’ Dynasty or something. I’ve long since lost track of my own opinion.
