Yeah, I’ve been putting in more than my fair share at the office and have even spent a couple nights entertaining. I think this might be the only thread I’ve read all week.
I thought it was worth my time because I felt you were in the right and yet it was a minority opinion. Happens. I chalk it up to people generally being pretty dim… even on the World’s Smartest Board™.
Take a day off. Take ten. But if you are going to storm off forever – Number one: it isn’t a very compelling way to make a statement. The board will go on with nary a difference. Number two: I will have wasted my time sticking up for someone not interested in toughing it out themselves. This will piss me off.
I agree with that. But since the percentage in the US as a whole might be close to single digits, that doesn’t have to be saying much.
I also should have quarreled with saying that the Dope is “fine” with the transgendered. Better than most communities, probably. But there are a ton of snide little digs that get thrown in, mostly by a rather vocal handful.
When you come from as small and backwards a hometown as I do, it’s possible to look around the Dope and marvel at how accepting people are. But beneath that surface can be a lot of hostility and fear.
Of course, it’s an attitudinal thing, therefore impossible to prove one way or another.
There are places on the Interweb for people… who have needs…like yours.
Look, I truly didn’t take the side of the dark lord of the smith just to be contrary. ( perish the thought. Me. Contrary. Ha. ) I felt that Indygrrl was outa line in objecting to the use of a bit of personal data from one thread appearing in another thread.
Do people spike the punch sometimes in threads? Yeah. Have people taken really shitty shots at me using personal data gleaned from my history here, and hit and run in threads using it? Yeah. Big fuckin’ deal.
I think she fucked up here but yanno, I’m not going to throw stones too hard in glass houses and tell her to fuck off and stay gone. She’s an incredibly intelligent contributor here and perhaps a few days or a week away will give her a bit of a cooler head and some perspective.
Then again if she’s feeling overheated maybe she should take all of her clothes off and cool down.
I explained why I posted what I posted, snarkybitch. You can’t comprehend, that’s your problem. I’m OK with neutron star’s reply: the Pit is one place where, if you can’t take it, you better not dish it out. So, just as neutron star carefully did not call Indygrrl a prostitute, I’m not calling you a stupid slut with an asshat that’s almost as big as your actual ass.
It’s worth pointing out that there are valid even dare I say feminist objections to stripping that have nothing to do with “hostility” or “fear.” To assume that any disapproval must stem from American provicialism is inaccurate. It’s also worth pointing out that comparisons to gender identity issues or homosexuality are inapposite, unless you think people choose to be transgender or gay. I’m sure there are some women who strip out of economic necessity, but AFAIK that is not the imperative for most of them.
Since I was replying to someone who thought sexual orientation was relevant, demonstrating that Dopers can’t possibly have a problem with stripping, I think you are addressing your comments to the wrong person.
Ever heard of sarcasm? Or are you trying to twist that comment into some sort of confession by Indygrrl? Yeah, you’re Woodward and Bernstein rolled into one tight little package. Crack detective work there, Sherlock.
