I would think that would be in the top three questions to ask. It would be pointless trying to figure out other stuff only to find out on page 3, that yes, the op does smoke crack and swallows adderall with vodka, daily.
So I would think the correct question in response to “I have a migraine”, would be “have you been taking any OTC or recreational drugs lately?” :dubious:
As far as VCO3 asking about poppers… Well, if it’s a common thing with strippers, and the OP is a stripper, I don’t see the harm in asking. Cops will get the question “how often do you get shot at?” more often then say, secretaries. If poppers are a commonality with strippers, asking the question “did you”, doesn’t autmatically assume that all strippers are taking poppers. To be offended by it is petty IMO.
Is this the same thing as whippets? Because we used to go to sex shops in Nashville and get those silver cartridges and do whippets out of balloons. The most disconcerting thing I ever saw was the guy that was driving our party bus after prom doing a whippet with my friends. Oh well it only lasts a few seconds.
I do believe that might be the most ridiculous statement I’ll read this week.
It was clear to me that VC03 was trying to be an ass and get away with it. If Qagdop the Mercotan* posted about having a migraine would anyone have asked if he’d fallen off the wagon? Is it only the posters who aren’t highly respected that get treated like this? (No, I don’t think there’s some secret clique.)
Indygrrl’s offense is justifiable.
*Not trying to pick on him, first poster I could remember the name of who’d had substance abuse issues.
grayhairedmomma, how do you know who is highly respected and who is not? Only a very few people have expressed a personal opinion of Indygrrl out of many thousands of members.
Who knows why she was so sensitive to VC03’s comments or why he asked the question to begin with?
Can’t we just cut each other some slack some time? Yeh, I know…it’s the pit. But this seems to be reaching.
Without knowing a history of someone, I don’t see how asking that question is out of line. In the slightest.
It’s simple.
“I have a head-ache/migrane”
“have you taken OTC or rec. drugs recently?”
…that’s ridiculous??
Please EXPAND on why you think asking that question is ridulous, since both you and jsgoddess have stated is ridiculous and unreasonable without any reasoning as to why it’s ridiculous and unreasonable to ask.
And maybe your reasoning skills could use a little work. Let me know where and when you’ve seen me say anything like “strippers aren’t people just like you and I” and we’ll discuss it.
I hope everyone will excuse me for taking a further look at VCO3’s insulting question, and I’m more convinced than ever that he is a disingenuous sack of manure.
“I know a lot of strippers get into using it to keep up during long shifts.” Later, it is suggested that all the… errr… more “cosmopolitan” strippers use them. Forget about the fact that it doesn’t strike me as all that much of a sophisticated activity. Would anyone care to provide a cite linking regular popper usage to strippers? Better yet, that strippers use them to “keep up” during long shifts. Because, you see, poppers are vasodilators, not amphetamines. They also relax muscles and give a bit of a head rush, which is why they are most often taken to enhance sexual pleasure just before penetration.
“they can totally fuck with your blood pressure leading to migraine-like symptoms.” Really? The headache caused by poppers is immediate, as the drop in blood pressure triggers a reflexive increase in heart rate. It is this reflexive action that leads to flushing, nausea, and headaches. All immediate and lasting up to a few hours. Sound like the migraine that Indy clearly indicates she woke up with? Not to me. I only found one cite linking poppers to migraines, and that dude thought they also caused cancer, Parkinson’s, blindness, and chronic depression. He won’t be up for the Nobel prize in medicine this year, I’m afraid.
“most migraine medicines and amyl end up in your system at the same time, you could straight-up drop dead.” Well, they don’t sound like a good idea, to be sure, and there are a number of potential drug interactions. But none of them is instant death from interaction with a migraine medication. Where the fuck did this come from? Most of the interactions are with other medications affecting blood pressure, with the most severe warning going to mixing poppers and alcohol due to the severe risk of hypotension. If I could only warn a presumed popper abuser about one interaction, this would be it. But that’s me.
You can now return to chastising Indy for not being nicer.
I’ve ‘abused’ poppers in the past (albeit with alcohol) and I’ve definitely had a headache the next day, which is rare for me with hangover alone. If your head is pounding all night, don’t expect it to be right as rain come morning. And I don’t think the OP should have dignified VC03’s question with an answer, really.
Ya know the only one here (almost) who has made claim to doing “poppers” is VCO3. And he’s not a stripper, as far as I know. So why make reference to her profession? Strippers do drugs. Lawyers do drugs Doctors do the really good drugs. VCO3 does drugs, apparently.
If he wanted to be helpful why not just say “You know amyl nitrate can cause migraines, have you done any of that?” And not sterotyping her. Even if she’s talked about being a stripper.
Yup, seems odd to assume something used for a momentary short-term high (and muscle and sphincter relaxant, hence it’s attraction in gay circles) would keep someone doing a difficult physical act (stripping) going for a long shift… more likely they’d do something with a longer-term (but milder) high and without the muscle relaxant aspect as it would make it harder to do things like dance / spin around a pole / etc… that make them money
Add my vote to the ‘he’s an asshole’ column please.
She simply stated that she was, in fact, a stripper, and inquired as to whether anyone had any questions about her profession. When you imply someone says “Look at Me”, that would be you judging her, in my opinion. That’s how the whole judging thing works. First you separate “them” from you, then it’s easy to feel however you want about “them”.
I disagree with your reasoning, inasmuch as I think it is possible to view a post as a “Look at me!” post without having to make any judgment about the type of person who makes such a post, and I also think it is possible to make such a judgment without having to divide people into “humans” and “non-humans”. Granted, if you make such a division then likely it is easy to judge the “not like us” people, but that doesn’t necessarily imply the process works the other way around.
See, I don’t. When I was in law school, I went to the hospital with what I later found out was an anxiety attack. The first question I was asked, “have you used cocaine recently?” Why? Because I was a 25 year old law student with a tight chest, tunnel vision and short breath. Had my mom presented with the same symptoms, I am pretty sure she wouldn’t have been asked the same question first, but it probably would have been asked at some point. Now, if it turns out that poppers have jack to do with migraines, then pit VC03* for shitty medical advice.
